AKA the producers' plot to keep ratings up by including shirtless scenes as often as possible in those early seasons.
Season 4 had so much shirtless action, in the opening credits it shows Clark shirtless 3 times so we got to see that every episode. Plus they introduced Jensen Ackles and they didnt waste much time getting his clothes off either!

The Smallville season 7 premiere when he ripped his shirt off was HOT!!!
He’s one of those men where they locked aspect ratio on his extremities and increased scale 1.5 to 2X. Look at his hands. They’re huge.
