This is HANK GREENBERG, nicknamed "Hammerin' Hank", was a first baseman for the Detroit Lions. A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and a two-time Most Valuable Player Award winner (MVP), he is considered one of the greatest sluggers in baseball history.
Greenberg was the first Major League Baseball player to join the armed services in WWII, serving 47 months, more than any other major league player. His career statistics suffered since his service took place during his prime playing years. In 1947, he signed a contract for $85,000, a record up 'til that time.
