I am not surprised at the discrepancy between self reported and measured, and I think it is a combo of dishonesty, optimism, and variation of erection quality

Unless I am mistaken, real erections are seldom if ever measured except by self. The ones not self-measured in the studies are estimates based on stretching a flaccid.
