Jury Duty

I did something notoriously absent-minded.
I was supposed to call in for jury duty last month and I forgot.
Then I got a letter telling me I missed it, which I didn't open until yesterday, telling me I have a rescheduled jury duty (that I'm no longer eligible for on call service with, so I have to go there regardless of if they need me) this Friday.
Naturally, I have a trip that I've been planning for a very long time this coming weekend.
I'm pretty sure I'm hosed.
I'm fairly sure I won't have to pay a fine, though they threaten it. But I doubt when I call on Monday that they'll be able to help me reschedule. And I doubt when I call on Thursday night that they'll say they don't need me on Friday.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), for some reason, educated people, especially those with a post-graduate degree, are often dismissed from jury duty off the bat. Not that I wouldn't love getting paid $15 a day to sit there and do practically nothing for a few days (sarcasm, folks), but the best part of this is that they don't even pay you for the first day, which is probably the only day I'll have to be there since I'm guessing they'll dismiss me!
It'd be great if I show up there on Friday and they dismiss me almost immediately, but I can only imagine that they'll have me sit there all day before telling me they don't need me.
And I'll miss my trip! All because I'm absent-minded about crap like this.
Meh. At least I have a big cock.

| | I'm absent minded as hell about this kind of thing too - I and don't EVEN have a big cock to make up for it. Oh well, at least I have the use of someone else's big cock ![]() (I hope you get to make your trip.) |

| | Jury duty sucks. I've been called for jury duty three times, been on three trials, car wreck, murder and assault & battery. The last time I was called I got lucky and didn't get picked for the pool. Good luck, but you're probably fucked this time. |

| | "At least I have a big cock." Meh. All things are relative, Guy-Jin. ![]() What you should tell them is that you have a hearing problem. That will often get you excused from being asked in the future. Or at least it has me. |

| | don't sweat it! i had jury duty last year on a friday at the clara shores building in downtown LA (i'm assuming that's where you're going). they dismissed all the jurors minutes after everyone checked in. fridays are slow and it's rare they'll have any cases set up. i was only in the building for a total of 10 minutes--and that included going through customs, checking in, and leaving. you've got nothing to worry about! |

| | Even hawter if you served and, whatever the verdict, could tell us whether the jury was hung. |

Don't worry about that, though. In this city, defense attorneys don't want literate people on their juries, so I am a-outta there. |

| | Update: I called this morning. I gave the woman a story. Well, I started a story and then she said, "Oh, you want to reschedule? Sure, which Friday would be good for you?" Now I don't have jury duty until October. I guess they aren't hurting for jurors in LA county. ![]() Off to the lake I go on Friday! |

| | I was actually in a cranky mood the other day from having finished 4 days of jury duty with a mistrial. Next time, I've got to find a way out of it. |

| | Or the other way to consider this situation. What if you are accused of doing anything/something that requires a Jury Trial? Would you desire some one who is not interested in performing their civic duty? As for my own point of view. Jury Duty is a Civic Responsibility that anyone who is a human should take as a serious duty. |
