Emotional roller coaster

Posted 07-24-2008 at 06:20 PM by ncguy207
My emotions have been like a roller coaster this past week. This being the first full week after the passing of my father. I wanna cry, laugh, scream, hit something etc. Is this a normal feeling? I was wondering how other people that have been through this handled it. My dad was my honest to goodness hero. I relied on him for everything.

Normal, yes.

I've never experienced the loss of a parent, but I can imagine that you do with that as you do with all other things: carry on. Surely it's what he'd want you to do. When my step-mom died, I became a bit more present to my immediate family. That def. helped.

I think that it is normal how you feel. You will have to surrender yourself to your emotions...and deal with them positively. If you want to go break shit, try going for a brisk walk or a run in the park. If you gotta cry, go somewhere and cry your heart. Scream. Do what you can and evolve. You can't grieve forever...you have to pick up the pieces and ford your own streams.

There are some truisms. Your father is always with you in spirit. You have all the goodness that your father was in you. You always have him within you. You lost a physical representation but you never lost the spiritual representation of your father and who he was. Remember that.

I wish I had some really poignant advice for you man....but you just have to ride the emotional rollercoaster until things start to level out. I hate it that you lost your dad, but rest assured that he's in a much better place. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers.

Much love to you man

It must be must a terrible thing to lose someone who you loved and cared about so much. I'm sorry for your loss. But I was thinking that it's so great that you had such a wonderful relationship with your dad. Take care.
