We actually have 3. One contains manuals to all the appliances in the house, scissors, scotch tape and a Sharpie. The other contains phone books and take out menus and the third has a mish-mash of things like 5 year old flower seed packets, keys to locks we no longer own, Campbell's Soup labels for the church Sunday school. rubber bands and anything that is small and has no other home.

You clearly don't live in New York where the average kitchen is 4 feet by 6 feet-there's no space for a drawer in there what with the stove, the refrigerator and the sink.

My junk drawers are the ones I wear when lounging around and not expecting visitors

Not too much, just the typical pens, pencils, old rubber bands, maybe a train schedule here and there, screws, nuts (no, not THAT kind), bolts, little stuff that people have picked up from the floor which they step on but for some reason don't want to throw away...

Is cleaning out your kitchen junk drawer on a Saturday morning any indication that I need to get a life?

I just got sick of all the brick n brack that was in there and here's a sampling of what I pulled out -

various screwdrivers
unused loose toothpicks
rubber bands from newspapers and where ever else they come from
old wine corks
wedding table gifts & candied almonds
gag gifts people have given me - like pens with floating scenes in water
beaded necklace
3 rusty sissors
birthday candles
business cards of home improvement guys
yellow post-it notes
pens without ink
highlighters
matches / bic lighter / fireplace-bbq trigger lighter
lifesavers
gum
odd bolts and nuts from ?
buttons that fell off clothes
tape measure
old dog tags
temperature probe for the microwave oven
tape
electrical plug extender
bamboo skewers
furniture pads
first aid ointment
paperclips
krazy glue
touch up paint for the car
fingernail clippers
telephone extention cord
a used printer cartridge
dental floss
stick glue
teflon tape
tic tacs
assorted tea light candles from Ikea
Westin hotel room card keys from?
Honey in small containers from Ihop or something.
padlock without a key
coupons that expired 6 months ago

Too bad we can't have one of these drawers for one's mental life. It would come in handy at times. Just stick problems in there and just forget about them, the miscellaneous problem drawer - the proverbial out of sight out of mind drawer for your mental health.

Loaded 15 round semi-automatic 9mm with three extra loaded clips.

I figure that and the one that matches it in my bedroom will give me enough time to get the safe open to retrieve more serious firepower in the event of an emergency.
