That could take anywhere between a couple of months to 1 year or more. Much of that depends on you and how well you keep track of your routine and interpret the feedback- e.g.- when you start to plateau it's likely time for rest. If you're rested and you fail to gain, it's time for something different. There's also your genetic propensity to gain, your recovery ability, and several other factors to take into account that will affect your rate of gains.

That's something you'll have to determine. The average beginner's phase is 4-6 weeks. If you feel your stamina sharply decreasing and your soreness increasing after week 4 then that's when you'd start your layoff. Some men can go for longer than 6 weeks without a break, but by then it would be best to progress to the advanced routines.

"40 reps" was used an example to show you how to add reps. You should start with a rep scheme that's comfortable but challenging and work up from there to a max of 100 reps.

i get an erection frequently while doing the jelqing; i stop and wait til its a semi again, but this means i do 10 jelqs every few mins. is that ok? or should it be more intense to have an effect?

if i do the excerises with an erection, does it matter that much?

Your jelqs should be done with your penis semi-erect. You can wait for your erection to subside or you can try ejaculation prior to your session to ensure that you're not as prone to getting erect.

Does PE really work? I am an average guy and just want to gain an inch or two and maybe an inch in girth. Am I about to waste a lot of time and energy? Please let me hear from guys who have actually done this and it worked for them. Thanks.

That's a good temporary solution. With time you'll be able to "train" your penis and you should be able to get through an entire workout under full control.
