Exclamation Paragraphs People!

It is so hard to read a paragraph with 1500 words.

If you don't know where to start a new paragraph, just start it every 4th or 5th sentence. People have busted others for spelling or grammar errors, but never for starting a paragraph at the wrong place.

Also, if you did not take a typing class. You need to put a space after every period.Otherwise it looks dumb. (e.g.) Also put a space after a comma, like this.

How very arbitrary of you! I suppose it was easier than suggesting people conceptually paragraph their posts though, wasn't it

Agreed.

After about 5-6 lines, you need to hit the return button. Think e-mail, not paper for high school.

There is no double spacing here.

These people obviously do not know when to start a new paragraph. I would rather they start a new paragraph randomly, than to have a 694 word post with only one paragraph. See today's Blogs. I was intrigued by the blog but had to give up less than half way through.

I have trouble understanding why anyone would not know when to paragraph, but obviously some do. (I probably put in too many, just as I put in too many commas.)
One rule of thumb I once heard was to make a new paragraph when you feel a tendency to take a breath when reading a text aloud.
I see how that could help.
A paragraph break does seem a natural point to breath.
Just sayin'.

I like big spaces.

Words squashed together are really hard to read.

And I like lots of smiley faces, as you all have probably gathered by now

Ooooh, and I like using commas. I probably use waaay too many.
And I like extending words and highlighting them for dramatic effect.

I also learned that a paragraph is used when going into a new thought.

On here it is different, and sometimes I create a new paragraph per line, so that it is easier to read.

That does not bother me as much as a run-on paragraph.

I always double return my paragraphs, I don't know why, I just always have!

I can cope with a lengthy paragraph, as long as it's got a few full stops and commas.

Well, that's the more basic rule.
But if some people have problems noting that point, then the breathing rule can help them find that point at which they're moving onto a new thought.

the problem is that people write as they think, so once they start a paragraph they keep going as a new sentence or idea, while they should use it for an aside comment or remark.

a tip would be that if your paragraph sentence is too long and relates to the current sentence you are writing, you can try placing the sentence in the paragraph AFTER finishing the first phrase - and without the paragraphs-

and you will see that many times it will still make sense

As demonstrated by some LPSGers, some people don't think as they type, thus negating the need for punctuation, grammar, spelling and any other various and sundry linguistic tools.
