I don't want to get into the 'is that gay' debate. Yet, consider this -- mainstream advertising (by demographics this means straight, relatively conservative, and non-offensive) uses very good looking men and women. I believe that we associate our own image with that in the advertising. We want to *be* the Marlboro Man, or the James Bond type, or whatever that is used to sell the product. I don't think this is the same as being *sexually attracted* to these images or people. Perhaps a lot of our fascination (guys in straight porn, looking at the gallery at LPSG) is more about self-image than straight/gay/bi/republican sexual attraction.

Hmm, this is something I actually think about a lot. The question here is are advertisers and hollywood creating images or are they taking people's images from the real world and adapting them to their advertising? I think for the most part, people with images like the Marlbaro Man existed way before their advertisements were concocted, and the Marlbaro Man was created to appeal to people who already have that image, not vice versa. Sure, there are people who see this and think "I want to be like that," but all of these images stemmed from actual people and their styles, and are used to sell products to that target market. That's how I feel about it at least.

Conceptually, the good looking women are marketed to the men and the good looking men are marketed to the woman. And in those instances when a man is marketing to a man, for instance a clothing ad, a straight dude is probably looking at the CLOTHES, not the dude in them. I don't think it's worth getting all "ugly" and unsocial in our posts- we should just leave it at "everyone is at a different place" and "different likes for different types."
