Silicone v. Water-Based Lubricants

Which do you prefer and why? I recently ordered a silicone based one off the internet because so many people have said it's much better than stuff like KY Jelly, which is primarily water-based.

Any thoughts?

I like silicon based. Water based dries out and gets sticky too easily

The silicone reduces friction though overall, doesn't it? So everything just glides and feels like heaven pretty much, am I right? LOL.

silicon is best by far. Once you have applied it there is no need for more plus you can use a smaller amount too :) I sure it is what they use in porn because you cant really see it. They have to use something.. there is no way they do anal without lube.

I read that some of the walls that are rubbed against during sex are absorbant. If thats the case, water-based is better cuz you don't want oily chemicals being absorbed into your body. The only drawback being having to pull out and reapply sporadically, but that beats having foreign chemicals absorbed into your body.

I spoke with a lady at the porn shop down the road from my house, she told me silicone. She says it stays slick for a very long time, great for her toys....I felt tempted to ask her if it was a good substitute for WD-40, she made is sound like it had just as many uses.

She may have said this because many women say water-based lubes cause yeast infections. The physiology is different for men, oil isn't really good to have sloshing around in your rectum, those walls are absorbant. Also, oil breaks down latex rubber so there's obviously an issue with oil-based lubes and condoms.

Avoid anything that contains the spermacide nonoxynol-9. Studies have shown that N-9 can cause genital lesions and damage to the rectal lining, providing a possible entry point for HIV and other STDs.

Silicon is the way to go. Not only is it very slick and long lasting for sex,but it can be great for other things as well. I had to replace some "oh" rings in my kitchen sink spout. I kept replacing "oh" rings, and when I would push the goose neck downspout over the stub, the "oh" rings would rip. Finally I lubed the "oh" rings with a bit of my Wet silicon lubricant, and the goose neck spout slid right over the "oh" rings without ripping them, and there is zero water leakage.

Marley, silicon based lubes are not oil based. So the worry about condom break down is not relevant.

About colorectal cancer

It's an article about colon cancer, but it briefly discusses how the rectum absorbs liquid. Would you rather have your rectum absorbing a water-based substance or an oil-based one?

My wife and I had this problem for a couple years...we never gave thought to the lube we were using. She ended up dreading sex, and I thought she was allergic to me or something. Once we switched to silicone, the problems disappeared.

I know I'm a first time poster, but really, that article says nothing about lube! If you research silicone lubricant, you'll find that it is perfectly safe for condoms, and generally, this stuff wouldn't be allowed by the FDA if it posed significant danger to health.

You apparently didn't understand the point I was trying to make. The walls in your rectum are absorbant. I'm not a chemo-phsyio-biologist but I'd rather have my ass absorbing water than oil.

The Silicone lubes don't seem to provide me with enough slide - i have to keep using large amounts of silicone, and especially during anal sex, the silicone doesn't work well. I have just discovered a formula of 'WET' water-based lube called WET HOT. It warms when you rub. This water based lube seems to last a very long time without having to reapply it. It cleans up easily - i find the silicone lubes tend to soak into the skin more.

I'm glad someone else is recognizing this. To me, even if you couldn't find a water-based lube that lasted, I'd rather pull out and reapply (it takes like 10 seconds) than to have my arse absorbing oils and whatnot. Eros is water-based and you could slide a watermelon through a rathole with that shit.
