i love saturdays! on saturdays i can be found almost anywhere! sometimes i'm home doing homework, laundry, household stuff, or just hanging online. other times i'm out all day, at the beach, doing family stuff, hanging with friends, or out on the town at a bar or a club. it's almost always unpredictable. but what always on saturdays though is catching up on my sleep!!! i won't be awake until after 12pm

I'm bored all the time. Lately I've been thinking that my life has been reduced to little more than a constant struggle against boredom.

Yeah, I do. But I'm trying to find a solution.

OK, but is that because you find sitting around doing nothing to be interesting and enjoyable, or is that because you have the ability to find interesting things to do, no matter where you are?

If it's the latter, then it would be helpful--and this goes for DC_Deep and kalipygian, as well--if you could answer my original question and tell me what do you DO to keep from being bored?

I think I agree with you. But that doesn't solve my problem.

OK, but when you go out, where do you go and what do you DO?

Happy Sunday!

A second thunderstorm just hit, and it's dark out and pouring rain. I've love the atmopshere of a thunderstorm...all those negative ions in the air are so refreshing. It's a perfect day to stay in, chill out, listen to the rain, go through the mail, do laundry, etc. I've got some ironing to do, too, so maybe I'll watch the movie I rented while doing that.

Everything is interesting, for a short answer.

I'm in a house full of books, surrounded by a quarter million acre state park. It is spring here, doing a lot of gardening. I have a lot of unfinished projects on the place. I have work to do for the community and others.

Failing feeling like doing any of the above, one could never run out of Wikipedia articles to read.

I do have a bit of a lack in friends I talk to and do things with. Wouldn't want to pretend all is perfect.

Since I live alone and tend to be more of a loner, I always go out to lunch on Saturdays, just to get my daily dose of humanity, say hi and smile to one or two people. I take a book with me to the diner and enjoy just sitting there until I decide it's time to move on.

I bought a small house two years ago and there are always projects, both big and small, to do. I tend to make detailed lists of the chores and mark them off one by one as they are completed, just to give myself a sense of accomplishment. Sometimes I will just sit in the back yard and try to imagine what it would look like if I changed the landscaping, added a few flowers, moved the bird feeders, etc.

So, Meniscus, you can force yourself into a necessary project or enjoy a creative one, depending on what your living arrangement is. Both are good ways to "kill time." I'm not good at entertaining myself either, but have learned that if you can't enjoy yourself, few others will enjoy being with you either.

A little of both. Doing nothing, in small doses, is fine with me. It's hard to give you suggestions, though, because I do what I enjoy, to keep from getting bored. I'm a musician, so I can always pull out an instrument and transport myself to an otherworld for a couple of hours. My yard and gardens are a passion, and there's always something there that could be done, so that can eat up another couple of hours. Watching a movie is good. Creative pursuits are also an interest, so starting a new project or working on an old one are good distractions.

Learn to knit or crochet.

Go through your junk drawer and clean it out.

Read a book.

Start a hobby.

Do volunteer work. There has to be a public library or museum or animal shelter or retirement home near you somewhere. Find one, and make a commitment to donate some time.

Take a walk. Notice things around you as you walk.

Think about what you enjoy, what keeps you from being bored, and make some efforts. Don't assume that it's the responsibility of the universe to keep you occupied.

Week-ends are good days in some respect, although i am on-call for my work i manage to keep occupied.

Love my gardening, really relaxing and enjoyable and on occassion can give me good exercise and tire me.

Love the jobs in my home- today laid a new kitchen floor.

Junk shops are a good find i collect 50's/60's pottery so i visit them.

Volunteer work in a Learning disabilities home for Adults and raise money for activities for the guys.

Usual chores, food shopping, cleaning etc and wow week-end has gone and back to work on Monday.
There is always something to do and work towards .

Here was mine yesterday which is about typical for a Saturday.

Had a lie in til 9.30 (hey it's a lie in for me)

Had coffee and toast. Caught up on my emails. Walked the dog. Bickered with my other half. Neighbour came round for coffee and a good long chat.

Went out for a little food shopping. Went to the pool for a couple of hours and spent most of the time chatting with other neighbours.Came back in the apartment and listened to some local radio.

Took a walk over to the centre of the village to meet a pal for coffe and yet another good chat (pattern here )

Took a shower and the relaxed in the shade on the terrace to cool down. Went out for dinner then met a group of about 12 people from a local forum at a karaoke bar down in the tourist resort area. Drank copious amounts of beer and sang quite a few songs. Had some bloody good laughs and rolled home around 3am. I was still up by 9.30 this morning ;)

What is boredom?

I'll go with the brain, Pinky

If I do stuff... anything other than sit around and vegetating, I'm not bored. If I don't move my ass then the weekend goes by too fast. Filling my days with activity makes them seem longer.
