Disabled guys - going to bathroom, masturbating?

I know I risk offending some by asking a question on this topic, but please know that my intent is not to offend, and I'm sorry if it does. I'm not sure what the proper way to ask my question is, and the way I ask is what might offend somebody, but here it goes:

I recently saw a video clip of a 25-year-old guy who was born with no limbs (he was featured on "20/20" recently) who travels the world as a motivational speaker - talking about his life and situation and inspiring people. (His website is Life Without Limbs :: Nick Vujicic)

I had to wonder (after all, what guy doesn't get horny and think about sex daily) not so much about his sex life and how a physical relationship might happen with him (although that's an issue and something to be curious about in itself), but how do such guys - guys with similar disabilities (quadraplegics, etc.) take care of sexual urges that all guys must take care of - to masturbate, that is?

I'm not necessarily asking or interested in the answer to the question if you would help a buddy out if he were in such a situation, although the answers to that would be interesting.

But I imagine there are all sorts of challenges to this guy in everyday tasks, but my mind can't help going "there" - to the questions about things we all do but never speak about - going to the bathroom, masturbating, etc.

Anybody have any knowledge about guys in these situations or know how they might cope?

usually disabled(quadraplegic/paraplegic) guys either self catheterize, where attends(diapers), or have indwelling catheters(foley/suprapubic). And they generally have no feeling "down there" so sexual things would be complicated.

I teach disabled young adults. The limited comments are about rubbing their erection on the bed or pillow - sort of humping face down. They are Thais and may be more comfortable with fluid sexual orientation (the concept is not quite the same here anyway) but some say that friends in the same dorm room may help.

Why do they tell a teacher this? Simply because I told them that before I retired here I was a psychotherapist specialising in sexual problems.

In response to whatthehell's post, can you elaborate on what self catheterize means? I don't know these medical terms, and I've never stayed at a hospital (I'm familiar with what a catheter is). If it's "self" doing something, then what if their movement is restricted - what if they can't use their own arms or legs to do that?

And regarding them having no feeling down there, then that raises the question: How much of our sexual urges are in our minds? Couldn't they still have a psychological urge? Not all of my urges are physical. I don't even have to touch myself and need to only see something sexual to get a hard on sometimes.

my exboyfriend was paraplegig and i can say there is no to much difference beetwin a normal one . his erection was good and not allways needed to be pubbing gor get it up ( says that he did have spinal cord injury but his brain works good ) and i asume that the head is what is comand your crazy cock's! anyhow.

yess self catheterisation mean people with spinal cord injury need to learn how to catheterise they self! it is hard for someone who is not familiar with this things but for others is just normal .
i have to say that i was never with better and sexual stornger guy then my exboyfriend !
quadriplegig people requare someone to care for them and do catheterisation for them or they use foley wich stays for 2 weeks connected .

I am a disabled guy, maybe I can shed some light...

I broke my neck 12 yes ago in a diving accident when I was 21 and have been a quad ever since. (I can move my arms but not my fingers)

Firstly, as far as feeling goes. It varies from person to person depending on the actual damage to the spinal cord. I for instance can feel pressure if you touch my leg, but stick a pin in it and I wont notice. Weird huh?
As for my dick, I dont have the normal sensation that I used to, but I can definately feel being inside a woman, I can still get hard, although viagra certainly helps keep it up.

Secondly, not everyone is on a catheter. Self catheterization is usually for para's who have full hand function, its a mission though, because they have to constantly monitor fluid intake levels. Quads either have a permanent indwelling catheter that gets changed every couple of weeks. Only drawback is when it gets blocked you get the most intense hyper reflexsia headache and bladder infections are common. I on the other hand wear an external condom. Its basically i bit thicker than a normal condom with a hole on the end to connect to a leg bag. It is self ashesive and stays put until it is changed the next day.

Thirdly, Diapers. I think this is a huge misconception because I dont know any quad or para that has ever used them! Fortunately, we are able to regulate out bowel routine. I do it 3 times a week by taking senekots in the afternoon, and then a couple of suppositories at night to get the ball rolling.

Anyone wanting to know how the LPSG "was" back when it first started around what, 2000? 2001?, well, THIS question (and the excellent replies thsufar) are exactly what the good old days around here represented ! USEFUL, INTERSTING INFORMATION.

I'm glad we're not getting what could be flippant hyperbole and jesting (or at least so far) with the replies.

Sometimes, we still get some new information which answers what we all wonder about and either are scared to ask or don't know to ask!
