Real long baggy gym shorts look retarded

I wear the type that go down to my knees, no longer. but I prefer the type that go to the top of my thighs, they're easier to walk on the treadmill or to do

is part of a discussion in the Underwear, Clothing, and Appearance Issues forum that includes topics on What to wear (to show or not to show), what's comfortable, what's not....

Actually, I think this is the truth here.

With the current acceptance of the huge % of the population that is openly gay, bi or closeted, so came the awareness to straight men that they were being viewed as sex objects, just as they were viewing women.

Fair is fair. Flaunt it if you are comfortable with being admired by both sexes... hide it with baggies if not.

But, man... I just watched a documentary, with lots of footage of vintage basketball games. If I had been there then, I would have actually paid attention through a whole game... If you know what I mean?

What I think is really bizarre and unattractive is the boys who wear their pants with the belt (or no belt) below their ass... watch them... every 30 seconds they are pulling them up a bit to keep them from falling down. A weird, need for attention thing, I think, more than a fashion or social/cultural position statement.

I went to college in the late 70's just as the trend started to change. I worked in the ticket office and got to see these guys practice. OMG, tight and man just get hard thinking about it. Thanks for that memory Onan Mann.

I play badminton and tennis as well as working out in the gym. I've got pretty muscular legs and I can't do anything in shorts that even reach mid thigh, because they're too restrictive. If I could get away with it, I'd play in a speedo! Maybe I should try that when the new season starts up.

The only reason I can think of for wearing "shorts" that long is that they want to hide scrawny legs.

I personally go up a size, as long as they can be adjusted at the waist. Otherwise, you're right Viking man, they can be very constricting.

You must be talking about the baggy shorts, not the Speedos! Otherwise, I live in the wrong part of CA! I'd love to see guys wear Speedos everywhere they go.

Honestly, I don't see overly baggy gym shorts too much. I rode my bike down the boardwalk yesterday and saw many guys running in mesh and dazzle shorts. There are a lot of guys out there that like to look hot when they run or work out, and they buy shorts that fit. The oversized, baggy fit seems to be confined to the economically challenged segments of our city. The college students and young professional adults usually wear gym shorts that fit well. Summer school has begun at SDSU, and the students are wearing shorts more often than jeans. I'm lovin' it!

I personally wear basketball type shorts that are just a bit baggy and sit just above the knee area. They are not too long as to obstruct my workout but at the same time saves my modesty and so I can focus more on getting more reps in instead of " Damn ! Hope my jock isnt showing to that guy over there on the pull up !"

Some fat guys do that because they think, by covering every inch of skin, nobody'll notice their fat.

Or else their covering the tattoos that say "this end up".

I hate anything that goes with 9X t-shirts and Soulja Boy-esque stying. Including big ass shorts and tall socks.

First of all, wearing tall socks with shorts is retarded regardless of the length of the shorts, but when you look like your wearing coulottes and a basketball jersey...I think you need a shiny helmet to go along with that mentally disabled outfit.

frankly, shorts have gone in utterly bizarre extremes...

from the super high and tight shorts in soccer, tennis and basketball in the late 70s early 80s...

to the now ridiculous mid-calf type athletic shorts/swim shorts and jean pants/shorts.

I have always stayed happily in the middle with all shorts, both for swimming, bermuda shorts, boxer shorts or athletic shorts...about two inches higher then the knee is the best for all(IMO)

This statement makes me suspect that you're still in high school, under 21, not into sports, or all of the above. I hope that you get over your extreme modesty as you get older. Knees are not vulgar!
