No. Afternoon tea is your own little peculiarity which has been adopted or imported with varying success to former colonies. Here in the US one only encounters it at expensive hotels who offer it for ladies who like to feel posh.

My grandmother has tea every afternoon around 4, she was raised that way and has kept the tradition, you are right, it is loosing ground, but I think its a lovely tradition, the the food is yummy!
