Weight lifters, muscular guys advice

Hey fit/muscular guys,

I have a quick question. I'm an overweight guy but I've been hitting the gym pretty hard the past two months and I can feel a difference, however I'm wondering if you guys have machine or free weight recommendations for working the bottom/underside of my pectoral muscle. I feel the burn on the top half, but never the bottom? Suggestions much appreciated

There is only the pectoralis major, and minor...

Heavy Bench Press, and weighted dips (not all guys can do weighted dips).

...OB

Pay the fee at your gym to see a trainer. He/she will give you a a good idea on what you can do to maximize your results, as well as a basic regimen to follow. If your form on any exercise is wrong, he/she can show you how to do it correctly. Advice from the guys on here is great, but a one-on-one with a trainer is well worth the money.

Wish I had something to add that wasnt just parroting other guys --- but theyre right: decline bench press is the best single exercise for this. also can try cable flyes, but instead of seting the pulleys high (which is standard) set them low, so you're "scooping up" the stack. This is an underutilized move.

But I also second the WifeofBath: a good trainer will really help you if you are a novice. I see a lot of beginners making mistakes, which at best will stymie progress, and at worst can lead to injury.

Just find a more experienced friend to lift with you at first, save your money on the trainer. That's just my opinion- I'm a college student so I have a lot more friends than money.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it. I will start the decline bench, I'd been doing incline with dumbells so that's great to know. I think I will talk to a trainer too, at my gym I get a few times free so might as well. Thanks again guys.
