I am biased, but I believe that my mother is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. She looks like Christie Brinkley. Anyway, she said that in med school, she was never taken seriously, but now she is Chief Trama Surgeon/Doc and once people see her title and listen to her talk they forget how pretty she is.

Of course we are - nothing in this world will bring you longer than good looks and charm.

I agree, beautiful people are treated better than average/ugly people. As mentioned in an earlier response, this isn't the first study on it. I've heard of others and they all come to the same conclusion.

Also studies have indicated that beautiful people are given lower penalties in court than average/"ugly" for the same crimes.. That perhaps should make you worry a bit.

I agree with the others and think it does matter how you look on how you are (at first) treated.

But once i was complaining to an ex gf that no matter where in the world I am, or if I look or not like a local, annoyingly (I am bad giving directions), I get very often stopped on the street and people ask me adress directions or the time, hell, once some japanese tourists even asked me to be in their pictures!

Either I am a slow guy or I don't think is because I am the best looking guy and they all want to hook up with me (never happened).

So my ex gf's answer was that I looked confident, my father's opinion is that I look like a good aproachable person...
I am not sure, I can walk being very serious and in my own world, is that aproachable? I'd say not.

I am heading off topic...
but yes, if somebody in service positions considers you are good looking, they normally are much more attentive to your requests (im not saying I am good looking, just that some ppl can think so)

I love your little beard. You remind me of Michael Ian Black if he had a little beard.

Membership in the good looking club has it's privileges - Easy entry into the popular kid click in high school, having sex with other good looking people, becoming Miss America, getting a job serving coffee to Donald Trump.

Seems like most of them become pharmaceutical sales reps or land cushy jobs in corporate America. Halo effect in effect where a culture of superficiality can sub for substance.

At the end of the day though looks fade and if there's nothing behind that pretty face you're just gonna have a life filled with one night stands, sexually and otherwise. There's no question it open doors however.

The same kind of treatment can be received by someone "not cute" by having a good personality, great manners, and respect for others. I think that they'll get fair treatment, instead of attitudes from people. Honestly, who doesn't want to be beautiful.

Now, I know some people that's just happy being "not cute." They haven't changed anything about themselves for years.

That's the truth.

I would agree that generally attractive people (in shape, desired facial features and tall) do receive better treatment and it's subconscious to a degree. For years the media made a certain look what's considered desirable and now it's almost a no brainer that someone who fits that description will be treated more fair than someone who doesn't.

That's why when you see one of those news pieces where they have a pretty woman put on prosthetics, ask for help, then take it off and do the same thing, the people are shocked when the trick is revealed. Subconsciously, they treated the woman different when they didn't find her fitting in with what their mind associates with what is "attractive."

It's deeper than that, yngjock.
I mean, beauty has been celebrated for millennia in paintings. drawings and sculpture ... so it's not just what we now call 'media.'
But more fundamentally, it's been shown that babies only days old look more closely at people with symmetrical faces ... the classically 'good looking.'
We seem to be hard-wired for this stuff.
