| | | Eddie Murhpy - Delirious Now i don't know about you young'uns, but for me, in 1983 when Eddie Murphy was new on the scene he was so utterly brilliant and hysterical.
He had been on SNL for about 2 seasons when he did his standup act, "Delirious".
He was my utter favorite, I was 11 at the time it came out and everyone thought it was hysterical, and me and all my friends and cousins had it memorized.
with "Delirious" and later "Raw", I believe these were the two best stand-up performances ever.
anyway for those of you who have never seen it or are too young to remember it, i would highly recommend watching it on youtube...
it is still genius too this day, and parts of it had me rewinding and laughing myself to tears several times.
fortunately, some nice fellow on youtube posted all nine parts, for all to enjoy.
It is rather interesting, since it is after all 25 years old, to have heard his blatant homophobia back then, but i guess it was all part of his "thing". I think he was self-deprecating enough to get away with it, and i do not think he was actively insulting gay people, so much as using homosexuality as a prop (like a gay Mr. T etc.) though his language was a bit politically incorrect.
anyway here they are.
++ATTENTION++
the first few seconds of clip1 has the sounds of two people screwing, why, i don't know, but it goes on for a few seconds before the performance starts, so if you are in a public place, you might wish to turn the sound down till that ends. | | | One of my faves!
My parents didn't believe in censoring my entertainment, so I recall seeing this movie with them at a drive-in... that's right, sitting between Mom and Dad through dick in the sink and Ralph Cramden butt sex jokes. Lol, they are nutty.

Eta: I was 7 | that was sort of like my folks...they did not censor my entertainment either, and me and my two cousins who were the same age saw it with my uncle.
then we all bought the tape, and i played the cassette tape in the car with my parents on a long drive and they were laughing hysterically.
He really had a cross-cutting appeal too, as we were white, and i think loads of white people utterly loved him...if you watch delirious, it was shot in D.C. and yet there are a ton of white folks too and everyone is having a great time...same with RAW...he was truly a comic genius, and i have to say probably the greatest comedian of all time, from writing, to standup to TV to films.
He is a brilliant mimic as well and when he played white characters on SNL and in movies it is even funnier.
I will never forget on SNL when he played "Mr. White", to investigate what white people were like when black folks were not around!!! LOL that onestill kills me!!!!

We're the same age/ilk... so go figure.
Aunt Bunny
Tea with some lemon
Chopsticks for $.29
Lemonaaaaaaaaaaaade... that cool refreshing drink.

Flashy, there is a congregation amongst you. | I still remember them virtually verbatim as well.
The ice cream man, Aunt Bunny, Michael Jackson, me and my cousins still laugh about that when we are out drinking etc., and all we have to say is "Come give your Aunt Bunny a kiss, baby" and we are in stitches.
Elvis, we gotta win this race!
"we gotta win this race..."
Michael Jackson "Michale's just sooo sensitive"
"Is it alright if i come down there and sing to you?"
too much great stuff...the part where he does the little kid crying always puts me on the floor.
and of course, "You don't got no ice cream, you can't afford it, he can't afford it, cause you are on the welfare"

| | | Both Delirious and Raw are fucking classic! Murphy was a "cringe" humorist for a long time and then went mainstream. He was the best when his comedic style resembled that genre. | | | |
