| | Banned | Flipflops/Sandals Why do so many people wear these things all the time? I can't stand it; it always draws attention to their feet, and that's something I DO NOT want to look at as i'm walking past you. Generally, It confuses and infuriates me to see people dressed like they've just gotten back from the beach, even though there isn't one around for hundreds of miles. I didn't start noticing this trend until the summer of 2007.
Does anybody know why the hell this happened? If so, is there anything I can do to stop it?
. . .Please? | | | |

| | | I love wearing flip flops! When its really warm they keep me nice and cool. I agree that in the middle of winter they make be slightly pointless, but when its warm there is nothing better!
My advice about your predicament, dont look down when you walk :P

| | | I love my flip flops, but I can't wear them for long periods of time as they start to hurt my feet. But, yeah, as someone else said, they are great for keeping my feet cool in warm weather, and if I'm running out to the store or to take trash out to the garbage, well they are quick and easy to put on | | | |

| | | You don't like looking at people's feet? So don't look.
Flip flops and sandals are a great way of letting the feet breath in the summer. Between the end of April and the end of September I'm generally in one or the other - when I'm not barefoot that is.
Anyway - feet are just hands without the opposable thumb. What's your problem with feet?

| | | I'm in sandals six months of the year. It just to bloody hot here to wear shoes. Only time I'm not is when I am riding a motorcycle. I have handsome feet, so if you don't like them don't look. | | | |

| | | Uh, if you work in a retail warehouse, where you need workshoes, sweat your balls and feet off, you'd want something extra cool like sandals.
Oh, and BTW, if you don't like looking @ them, nobody's forcing you to look.

I can't stand it; it always draws attention to their feet, and that's something I DO NOT want to look at as i'm walking past you. Quote: | Generally, It confuses and infuriates me to see people dressed like they've just gotten back from the beach, even though there isn't one around for hundreds of miles. I didn't start noticing this trend until the summer of 2007. | I don't know where you live but I noticed it long before that. I used to marvel at the usually obese women wearing sweatpants overcoats and flip-flops to the supermarket in December in New Jersey. This was at least 10-15 years ago. Quote: | Does anybody know why the hell this happened? If so, is there anything I can do to stop it? | I have no idea why this is occurring and no you cannot stop it. The only time the wearing of those cheap rubber thongs annoys me is in the workplace. I don't care if they are bejeweled and bedazzled they have no place in the workplace unless you are a lifeguard. In addition I hated hearing that schlamp-schlap, schlamp-schlap, schlamp-schlap going past my cubicle from May through September. One pet peeve. Technically the footwear with a piece that goes between your big toe and 2nd toe is a thong; regardless of whether it is rubber or leather. Flip-flops have either one or multiple bands or straps which go horizontally across the foot with nothing between the toe.

| | | Depends upon where you live. Only Havanahs, the spongy ones with the green stripe layer in the middle of the sole and made in Brazil are considered acceptable street wear in Buenos Aires when its 40 degrees Celsius and 110% humidity. Asian knock offs are considered vulgar.
I have always marveled at full-figured displaced Pacific Islanders (Tongans and Samoans, mostly) who march through three or four blocks of snow-covered sidewalks to the nearest grocery store wearing rubber thongs during winter in the Intermountain West. Tough people.
But as in the previous posts, if it bothers you so much just don't look down. Concentrate on soft bunnies, furry kittens, butterflies, and sex.
My personal favorites, however, are the velvet cloth thongs with the tatami matt-style inner soles made of straw. I think they're made in Taiwan. They last about two weeks and cost $1 a pair.

Flip-flops are the rubber/plastic cheap ones. Therefore it's ok to call them thongs. Other thongs can be leather and/or have other design characterics. All thongs have the piece between toes. Some thongs have a strap that goes over the big toe.
Sandals have the horizontal bands going across the foot with possibly a heel strap added.

| | | I love flip-flops, thongs and sandals. The only thing is that one must have nice feet if they're going to wear them out in public. Don't be showing off your fungus encrusted toes, callused heels and ashy looking feet if you are wearing soe sort of summer footwear. Go get a pedicure, then put the sandals on. | | | |

| | | You can put your foot down (pun intended) and stand on the position that they are not suitable for all walks of life! Seriously, I love them! I can't wait until warm weather comes to be able to wear them. I especially love the "tan line" guys feet get. | | | |
