Geez, hate seems like such a strong word/feeling for something as inane as disagreeing on a chat website. I know I've strongly disagreed with some people on here, (and you all know who you are), but to hate someone for it.... I'm not quite up to expending the energy required to hate some over some words or views on an internet website, and I would surely hope no one would waste their life hating me for my transgressions.

Remember: Hate is an acid that eats it's own container. If you hate someone, it destroys only you, not the person that hatred is focused on.

the stance, posture, and position on an issue is just the start of the image/picture that someone reading a post constructs

The character and personality of the individual then becomes apparent, as well

As the details fill in, the emotional response and predisposition begins to emerge, which is then going to be along the lines of acceptance, or rejection, either mildly, or strongly felt

Only one person here I could say I truly hated and he's been banned.

People I know who have or do hate me number upwards of 20-30, possibly more. Some people take an instant and vicious hatred of me. My shrink says it's because I can come across as arrogant but then what does he know? He's just a hired peon.

Surprising you'd put this kind of post up, hotbtm. I don't have deep enough involvement to hate anybody here (oh yes yes I know NOT THAT), but there are a number that may 'hate' me--this is in quotes because I haven't love or hate until I've met someone outside this flat medium.

It's a gossip column, if names are required, so I'll put a couple who didn't like me (and vice-versa), but we decided we liked each other instead--these were dragonfly20 and think_kink. This is the kind of think that delights me. The two who 'hate' me are only in the chatroom, and I always put them on Ignore if they're in there. I won't name them, but they are old-timers and one betrayed private confidence as well as invented invective due to desire to dominate the room with various kinds of fartiness. I won't name them because we all know that any publicity is better than no publicity at all.

In the forums, there are several who 'dislike' me, but there again I don't want to give publicity for something so odious.

I mean, what is this, group therapy--isn't naming the people who 'hate' you going to further antagonize, or does one then 'work it out'? I've just accepted that the 2 people in chat and I have irreconcilable differences and have no intention of trying to negotiate--it's not worth it. The ones on the board that 'hate' me may put me on Ignore, I know I put them there.

It's also not (to me at least, or not usually) all that possible to 'love' or 'hate' people whose names you do not even know. There is a false sense of intimacy in internet chat and blogs, there's a weird 'buzz of sweetness', etc., but it's based on mostly imagining a lot of nuance and attributes that you can neither hear nor see.

i agree becoming. some people take extremes on the board, if someone has a differing opinion of abortion, they become "HATED" by the other side. i think that, this being the internet, it offers immediacy. you can read 2 sentences from someone and make astronomical assumptions about that person, when you may have a friend who has the same views as the person you hate, but your friend has the benefit of catching you at a different time and place. fast-food, the internet, and cars have taught us that everything is expected NOW NOW NOW and we can make blanket statements and decisions NOW NOW NOW rather than taking the time to develop an understanding of someone else.

That's not a dig at you, hottie...I actually like the idea of this thread. That's simply my honest response to your question.

Well, if there is any hatred, I certainly hope it's an ambivalent one. I prefer apathy to hatred if there's going to be any degree of dislike.

There's a fair sprinkling of self delusional morons here - acting out, expressing radical or deliberately offensive views or being generally provocative in ways they're otherwise unable to be. There are of course some outright liars and I think, some who are probably genuinely ill.

For others LPSG is a real community, with 'off board' connections. For most though, I imagine it's merely a diversion, a place to sound off, have the odd laugh, the odd 'serious' debate and nothing more - that's how I see it anyway.

Hating in the context of LPSG surely indicates a serious loss of perspective, and that's being generous. Besides, life is too short and precious to waste indulging in hate.
