Teen Marijuana Use Linked to Later Illness

i smell bullshit.....as a teenager....well my life was sheer hell. (i've discussed this with my psychiatrist and psychologist and they agree) if i didn't have pot during those times....well i wouldn't have made it. It acted as an anti depressant. not to mention the chronic pain i was in (still have chronic pain, but deal with it other ways). Why would anyone be dumb enough to listen to (and take to heart) anything that comes from the white house, or any other political entity.

I've never smoked pot (or done anything bad that teens are expected to do) but I'm still pretty mentally fucked. Never been sexually abused either, so what does my mental state come from? :P

This isn't a serious or even rhetorical question (as I don't even have my own definite answer for it), just me being a doof.

I do agree; smoking can really make a world of improvement in those that need it. But for everyone else who wants to smoke bud: everything in moderation....

IMHO, there are some people who are genetically pre-disposed to depression and other mental illnesses as well as to having an addictive personality. I bet it's those people who have trouble or issues with smoking pot.

Stuff like alcohol and marijuana don't interest me; i'm already goofy and I already have an analytical mind. I believe that everyone has the choice to smoke or drink if they want to, but I use that choice not to.

There are also those for whom pot/grass/weed/maryjane/etc. is addictive and becomes a substance which they cannot manage to get through a day without. In many cases it also serves as what is known as a gateway drug towards other harder drugs such as cocaine, heroin, acid, etc. and with many, alcohol as well. Each person is different.

Some are addicted to food-some just to cheeseburgers-I become quite depressed when I eat too many cheeseburgers and find my weight increasing or when I spend too much on cellphones and that just makes me go completely crazy. So, it seems I can get depression and mental illness without pot (I am probably not alone on that).

My partner, is one who is addicted to just about anything-he has had drugs, alcohol, food, sex, internet, movies, cars, the list goes on... There are many similar to him. He attends those AA meetings and occasionally some OA meetings (which for years I thought was about me with those letters). Recently, he asked me along on an open AA meeting and people kept going on about having the disease of More. As in always wanting More. I suppose that's his situation-occasionally I border over into it.

while this is true, some of the people who become addicted to this drug probably exhibit compulsiveness in other aspects of their lives. stop smoking pot and its gambling they're addicted to, or sex. again i think it depends on WHAT the person is using it for. i NEVER smoke pot to forget about my problems or anything like that.

i smoke when i'm listening to old jazz records because it makes them even more enjoyable than they already are to me. some people drink because it makes it easier to cope with life, some people drink because they like the taste (like my "waterfall", watermelon vodka, orange juice, and fruit punch) or others may be naturally shy and a cocktail or two may loosen them up a bit.

again i think it all comes down to the user. some girls can, in a healthy way, control their diet. some girls become obsessive about their diet and begin purging or not eating but you can't say dieting is unhealthy, until it gets in the hands of someone who can't control it or is misinformed about it's purpose and use. personally i think some people should NEVER be given liscences to drive, they're unattentive, easily distracted, and don't consider what a privilege/danger it is and can be. the problem with pot is there's no screening process. anyone with 10 bucks can find a dimebag regardless of what they're using it for, just like anyone can buy groceries whether their intention is to feed their family or throw the food up to lose weight.

though this study doesn't apply to everyone, if i'm being honest, most of the people i know who smoke pot do use it to escape life, deal with difficult situations which is dangerous because you don't develop the natural coping skills essential for dealing with life. but don't forget there are people like me who use pot like an "upgrade" because it puts a mind in state where things that are already enjoyable become even more enjoyable (jazz music, sex, food, etc...)
