Happy Mother's Day: Woman pregnant with 18th child - Yahoo! News

LITTLE ROCK - It's a happy Mother's Day for an Arkansas woman — she's pregnant with her 18th child.

Michelle Duggar, 41, is due on New Year's Day, and the latest addition will join seven sisters and 10 brothers. There are two sets of twins.
"We've had three in January, three in December. Those two months are a busy time for us," she said, laughing.

The Duggars' oldest child, Josh, is 20, and the youngest, Jennifer, is nine months old.

The fast-growing family lives in Tontitown in northwest Arkansas in a 7,000-square-foot home. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are home-schooled.

Duggar has been been pregnant for more than 11 years of her life, and the family is in the process of filming another series for Discovery Health.

The new show looks at life inside the Duggar home, where chores — or "jurisdictions" — are assigned to each child. One episode of the new show involves a "jurisdiction swap," where the boys do chores traditionally assigned to the girls, and vice versa, Duggar said.

"The girls swapped jurisdictions, changing tires, working in the garages, mowing the grass," she said. "The boys got to cook supper from start to finish, clean the bathrooms," among other chores.
Duggar said she's six weeks along and the pregnancy is going well. She and her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, said they'll keep having children as long as God wills it.

"The success in a family is first off, a love for God, and secondly, treating each other like you want to be treated," Jim Bob Duggar said. "Our goal is for each one of our children to be best friends, and everybody working together to serve each other makes that happen."

The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jennifer, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 7; James, 6; Justin, 5; Jackson, 3; and Johannah, 2.

I'll be waiting for The Learning Channel or The Discovery Channel's next installment of their brood. They've had 2 or 3 programs made about them already, just on there.

Mom obviously is a baby incubator

But from what I can remember I think both Duggars were or are real estate agents. The Father Duggar I think was in the Arkansas state legislature.

They buy almost nothing new... they shop for clothes once a year at a THRIFT SHOP. They built a custom 7000sqft house, with industrial grade appliances, and even then they bought things cheaply purchasing things from a restaurant supply company that was going out of business, or something to that effect. I think there were 3 bedrooms. A room for all the boys, a room for all the girls, and a room for mom and dad. They are deeply religious. Children homeschooled.

It might have been Discovery Health Channel that did the programs on them. (simple google search for the duggar family turns up a link) I'm sure they were compensated in some way for appearing.

Well congrats for JimBob and Michelle, as soon as the baby is weened it becomes the buddy to one of the older girls. *snicker*

This does remind me of another family. Oprah did a show a few years ago about mega families. One family in New Jersey had 17 children. ALL BOYS! The dad was a neurosurgeon if I recall correctly. Can only have huge familes and live well if you make beaucoup bucks these days.

I hope this show plays in Europe. I think it's one of the better shows for understanding the mind of middle America.

THis reminds me of my former pastor who had 12 kids . I think it is ok for someone to have as many children as they can take care of independently. Unfortunately when it begins to overshadow any other aspect of your life and causes you to make decisions that are adverse to others then perhaps you might need to think about birth control.

After a certain number of children, the parents aren't taking care of the children - the older children are. I hope they truly love their children and aren't doing this because they enjoy the celebrity status derived from having so many children.

No, they're doing it because God wills it and nothing, not even the needs of the children, come before the will of God.

Why settle for a couple of children, when you can have litter after litter?

Well organized family. Two huge bedrooms for the kids 50'X20' with beds lined up along the length of the room. That was how we lived at summer camp. They have it made, once the children start having children there will be enough people in the family to form their own town. With a state legislator in the family, they can then have him/her lobby for the state providing sprecial grants to Duggartown and property tax rebates and other incentives

I wonder though, who get the mail that comes to the house addressed to J. Duggar.

I would say that her uterus is the size of a compact car now, and she does not have labor pains anymore, just sit and squat!

I'd like to know that, other than what they've made from television. The people that had 7 or 8 kids(McCaughey I think there name is)got to do some endorsements, and the father makes money doing speeches. They also received many donations.

That was common in my grandparents day; the older kids taking care of the younger ones. It does mature kids awfully fast.

If they're loving parents and can provide for their kids, I see nothing wrong with it. It's not something I'd do or most people would do. Brad and Angelina could wind up with 12 kiddos one of these days!

I've always wondered if having so many babies has a detrimental effect on a womans health/lifespan.
