Some people may not like to be photographed as they walk down the street or are in public, however the law of the land says they may be photographed. A person attending an event such as the Super Bowl may find themselves in a major movie, and their attendance at the event gives the film maker the right to film them there. That is the law of the land.

The film makers and photographers may not enter your home uninvited and photograph you. There you have your rights of privacy. In public, on public transportation you do not. I kinda like it that way.

There are trade offs that must be made in the name of personal freedom, and the trade off should always be on the side of the active participant. We are allowed to photograph persons in public and at public events.
F.Y.I. the other day as I approached a corner a man stood holding a sign reading: "By crossing this street you have agreeing to appear in a xxxx commercial and acknowledging your image may be used to sell xxxx, if you do not wish to accept these terms, please do not cross at this intersection" Not everyone crossed.

so people who don't want to be photographed don't have a right to that part of the street?? sounds slightly backwards. you can only come through here if you allow me to photograph you.

That may be officially the most bizarre thing I've read here and I've read lots of bizarre stuff. You would be proud of strangers fondling the women in your life? Your daughters? What if they fondled your son's penis? You'd be proud of that? You apparently have lost all perspective. Our bodies are not here for others to enjoy at their will and whim. We are all entitled to have the freedom and dignity to determine who allow to touch us and who we don't want touching us. You should test your boundaries. Spend some time in prison and if anyone tries to touch your genitals, just tell them, you are proud they choose your ass to rape. I'm sure the guys will be proud of you for celebrating what they do to you.

It would suck to have a loved-one photographed in the locker room or something. However, that's just one of those things you need to learn to laugh off. People's friends photograph them shit-faced drunk, doing the most horrible and embarassing things ever (so glad I don't drink :p) and those photos often end up rather public. If someone is photographing me through my house window, that's another thing - an invasion of privacy (which has been stated in this thread already).

You're wrong. Again, try this, get your digital camera and go to a beach and start taking pictures--in the open--of women's breasts or their crotches. Don't hide what you're doing. Then see how many legal rights and freedoms you have in a public space.

anybody with children?? tell me how you'd respond to some pervert taking pictures of your pre-teen daughter and telling you get over it, you're in public. you're in public, and your daughter's breasts just happen to be the focal point of the shot, though this can easily be argued down. better yet, he can take an upper-torso pic and zoom in when he gets home.

If you don't want the outline of your clothed genitalia photographed in public then wear clothes that do not show the outline of your genitalia.

You don't have like being photographed against your will in public, you don't even have to be OK with it. You do have to tolerate it.

Touching another person's genitals on purpose without their consent is sexual assault and does not equate with public photography.

There is little you can do to not be sexually provocative to at least some people no matter what you wear or look like.

If you put yourself in a public space then you must tolerate public opinion and interest in your appearance.

The situation in question is not about nudity. This situation is about people who are clothed in common public attire being the focus of sexual interest.

Not a parent, not planning on being one, but this is how it would likely play out.

Since your situation isn't specific, I'm going to assume I'm there with my daughter and she's clothed, as we're walking down the street or something. I'm also goign to assume that you think people doing this aren't normally being discreet.

I'd probably respond with a "What the hell are you doing?" type thing. He likely wouldn't answer(or not give a good reason), so there would probably end up being some sort of public spectacle of me trying to take the camera.

If you choose not to do anything about it, when you're aware of it happening, you're just stupid.

Now, in a more realistic event:
You find out someone has posted pictures of her online, and she was alone at the time they were photographed. The parent(s) would likely attempt to take legal action in such a case. Reason being that such an action seems like that of a pedophile. Her pictures are already forever a part of the mess that is the internet but taking such action helps to show you'r e acaring parent and also helps lessen the blow.

finally somebody being a bit more honest about it. it's not as easy as "deal with it, you're in public"

seems like people are isolating one instance and choosing to ignore the dozens of scenarios that would definitely be viewed as inappropriate and immoral.

My issue with this is the tendency to stereotype groups of people. It makes no sense to me to assign the acts of someone to the group as a whole. Moreover, most of the examples you have Marley are from young men and stories from when they were teenage boys. So combine immaturity, with hormones, desperation, sexual confusion and social ostracism and sure, some people will cross some boundaries and make poor choices.

I think the greater harm is to see this as a trend or a indicative of characteristics of gay men instead of the isolated experiences of some people who make bad decisions. Lots of people make bad decisions. Gay men are no more or less perverted than anyone else and they shouldn't be expected to be. Above all, like everyone else, they are human. There is no value in distorting them in to being anything else but.
