Iron Man

Okay, so I saw the Iron Man movie last night. What did everybody think of it?

I liked it overall, but I thought the story and action sequences became a bit predictable in the last 10 minutes of the film. I also disliked the way they used Middle Eastern terrorists as the bad guys; I think that was thrown in there simply to play off of the whole "9/11, terrorism" thing; If the movie had been made in the early 20th century, would it have featured the Japanese, or German military instead? This is a minor annoyance, and by no means offended me.

I thought that most of the casting for Iron Man was actually some of the best casting i've seen in recent years; Robert Downey Jr plays the part very well, and seems comfortable in the role. He's said that he wants the second movie to deal with Tony Stark's alcoholism, and that he could play the part well since he's dealt with addiction in real life. I enjoy the fact that the character has depth, and that Stark's on-screen personality and looks are very close to what people have been seeing in the comic book page for years.

And the character of Pepper Potts deserves her own paragraph; she's played by Gwyneth Paltrow, and it was hard for me to imagine her as the goofy hippie girl from Friends, especially during the scene in which she's dancing with Stark. This may not be a valid reason to rate the film, but I loved her hair in this movie, Also, I want to touch the heiney!

Overall, i'd give this movie *** 1/2 out of 5 stars; it's certainly better than 95% of the god-awful cinema that's been around for the past few years, but in its genre, I still feel that X-men 2 is the most solid superhero film yet (As one example: Bringing Nightcrawler to the screen without making him look totally laughable). I'm willing to pay to see the second Iron Man film, however. . .and I usually feel that movie companies don't deserve my money. If you haven't already, go see this movie; it's an enjoyable way to spend your time, if nothing else.

Screw Flanders.

I can't wait to see it!

And I will agree with you that X2 was the best, out of that franchise. But hands down, Batman Begins was the best comic book flick, because it was/is totally feesable. There is nothing super about Batman, he's just a mortal man in a costume. It would be totally possible for someone out there to do what he does if they posessed his money, resources, and skills. Not likely to happen, but possible. Christian Bale knocked it out, brought the story back to Batman, where with the others, the story was placed on the villans. I think The Dark Knight will blow them all away. They are already saying that Heath Ledger did some of his best work as the Joker.

Sorry to hijack your thread. Look at me, my inner nerd is coming out.

Aslo, we have The Incredible Hulk coning up next with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. And what's really getting me hard, Hellboy 2!!!

What's this? Oh...just my package.
Yep, God delivered it, I signed for it.
World keeps on spinning.

Fucking hell, YEAHHHHHHH!!! Hellboy rocks... I've been edging since the last movie, waiting for this one. LOL! And then we've got Indiana Jones in a few weeks. I loves me movies!

And though I haven't seen Iron Man (and know I'll love it), Batman in all of it's good and bad versions, still shits all over the X-Men and Spiderman movies.

Oh, and yeah, sorry I also continued the hijacking. Iron Man will rule.

Using Middle Eastern terrorists as bad guys was no doubt done by the producers of the film because indeed that makes the plot more relevant to current day scenarios.

As I've stated before, I was reading these books at the time they were coming out, and in fact, as you suggest, then the bad guys were the "commies".

I got a kick out of also seeing the earlier version of Iron Man in the plot, the steel grey suit he wore in the first mag.

When we were readers of this stuff way back when, we imagined these heroes in movies but then couldn't imagine how they'd be able to realistically duplicate all the stuff in the comics. The technology just didn't exist then.

But so far they've been doing a "helluva" job of capturing on film what we've read so many years ago.

(...with the exception maybe of The Hulk. The first try looked a little cartoony...we'll see what the next one is like).

This is a clear example of what can happen when you stick to the source material. This movie was awesome on many levels. The inside references for comic fans (e.g., the first suit, War Machine --Terrence Howard looking at the spare suit and saying "Next time", SHIELD, The Ten Rings as a hint of the soon to be seen villain the Mandarin).

The crossovers with the upcoming movies including Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America, to culminate in The Avengers is an excellent idea.

Oprah: "Live your own truth. Life is too short."

Neo: I have these memories of my life--none of them happened. What does that mean?

Trinity: That the Matrix cannot tell you who you are.

If Iron Man was one of the WWII period heroes the answer to that question would be yes. But his comic debuted in 1963.

I just think that featuring the current real-life war in a film is a cheap way to "boost morale," and it severely dates the movie. Look at things like "Bugs Bunny Nips The Nips" as an example of this.

I can't wait for the JLA movie; if it's done right, it could be the best ensemble super-hero movie ever.

. . .ever.

I enjoyed it...nice light summer fare, well played out by an excellent cast. Thoroughly worth the $7 I paid to see it.

Am in general agreement with you, Greek Dude, tho I'd have probably rated it one full star out of five. Downey was okay, but doesn't do anything for me. Total turnoff. I'd have rather seen Jason Statham in the role. Maybe even, Mark Walburg or Matt Damon.

Another superhero movie this summer, which is going to be very unconventional and looks funny, is Handcock with Will Smith.

What's this? Oh...just my package.

Okay, so you rate all of your moves EXCLUSIVELY on sexual attraction? What a pervert. I thought Pepper was hot, but it didn't seriously influence the story, effects, editing, foley, directing, acting or anything else.

yeah, the trailer for it showed before Iron Man. I thought the movie looked pretty shitty; another dreary CGI-laden movie featuring Will Smith; because I Am Legend just wasn't enough!!
