Does Firefox for XP Have a Memory Leak?

I'm noticing of late that since an upgrade of Firefox, it's memory usage has ballooned. My PC was going slowly so I checked the task manager just now and sure enough, there was Firefox using 687MB of RAM doing nothing more than just browsing LPSG (and not even the galleries). It really doesn't matter what sites I'm visiting, eventually Firefox just turns into a memory hog.

Any ideas or anyone else experiencing this? Firefox didn't used to do this.

Same here, can't claim it was since the update, because I probably didn't do the last one myself, but it has started recently thats for sure.

Memory leak or not, I'm barely content with Firefox nowadays; tabs seem to kill ~2.5GHz CPUs.
I'm not going to switch to Opera though as I don't use IRC anymore.
*sigh*

Mine is using 21meg, I suggest that you clear your cache (go to tools "clear private data") on a regular basis, Firefox retains a lot in case of an interrupted session, it is able to restore itself to the last session. If you have been viewing a lot of videos and Photos these all add up. Also rebooting your PC a couple of times a week never hurts (Unless you shut it off every night anyway)
Good Luck

Actually, my Firefox on Mac just hogs ridiculous memory. and has crashed my PowerBook way too much. Does slow a lot on a PC desktop I have, but relatively stable on my PC laptop.

Go figure.

BTW, about 252MB right now, but I have 3GB on this laptop, so perhaps it's relative.

I don't have any problems with it. I have Vista prem. IE was crashing too much so I started using Firefox and I like it much better. I have 2 windows open(10 tabs) sometimes it is a little slow but most of the time it is fine.

And we're changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
And I’ve got this idea, I’m a foreign correspondent
And I hear the lines are all engaged
But that’s love, love, love, love, love that it is

33.7MB

Browsing LPSG.

Is it possible that you have spyware or something else running on your PC?

I suggest you run something like Ad-Aware and HijackThis.

Firefox is known for being quite the memory hog over time thoughout the industry.

The next (and current beta) corrects this problem, you may try the beta but be aware it is not... there quite yet.

I've noticed memory leaks with Firefox in previous versions, but not recently as of the past 2 updates. (That's approximately 3 months).

Consider downloading the latest copy of Firefox, uninstalling the old version, (reboot your computer), and then load the new version of Firefox.
