I think we're putting too much stock into "instinct" and some sort of weird form of evolution. Like the OP said, there are tit men and ass men, etc., and women are the same way. I think aesthetics are far more complicated than some of these arguments being put forth as evolutionary or instinctual absolutes.

This isn't the case in my experience. A lot of women I know don't even look at a man's body proportions all that much and focus on his face. Some women like men with smaller stature overall. A lot of women like men skinny, some like men with a little bit of a belly. Tastes are as varied as there are people, as are the reasons behind those tastes.

I usually notice the build, I like a built sexy man :). Pretty eyes are a plus too.

I'm not surprised at the lack of mention of six-pack abs. As someone said, the washboard stomach tends to be more of a "status symbol" for guys rather than something women look for. I've had more compliments about having a toned, flat stomach than I've ever heard anyone get for having a six-pack.
