And now you see why I didn't want to edit his posts. Doing so gives him the ability to deny it after the fact as you're doing.
Quick question. Why did you edit your post at my request if you didn't say that?

| | | Why are you asking her to repeat what she said in an edited post that you requested (advised?) her to edit?
Surely the point was that it shouldn't be seen - can't have it both ways.

| | | Penisuer, are you usually this combative? You aren't starting off on the right foot if you want to get support here. People are generally pretty tolerant to those in need and i'd say you got quite a bit of support in your first thread. Acting childish and rude towards moderators makes people question whether or not they should have taken the effort to respond to your post at all.
I see a lot of immaturity with the "He did it first!" mentality. The moderators volunteer their time here, give them a little respect. They put up with a lot of shit and get the shaft constantly for not being hand puppets.

Surely the point was that it shouldn't be seen - can't have it both ways. | I'm not asking her to repeat it. I'm just pointing out to DF that if we instantly banned every person who wished a death on someone there'd be significantly less people around. The victim she's championing included.
Honestly, I'm not sure I know why I advise anybody. From here on in I'll just let everybody hoist themselves on their own petards, wait an hour 'til the post is cemented and then crucify them for it.

You had a go at her earlier about waiting three hours! Which is it? Yes, I am being facetious. No, I'm not serious. Quote:

| | | G, the problem I have with your removal of the thread is that you subverted an effort by the member community to regulate itself. Before there were mods here, the members decided collectively what was within the bounds of acceptable discourse, and what was not.
What Symphonic did clearly outraged many peoples' sense of propriety and decorum...including me. It was far beyond the pale of acceptability. I did report it, and was dismayed at the inadequacy of your action. I understand the edge you walk as a mod, but that changes nothing of my feeling.
In the face of such a lame response, it's unsurprising that an outraged member turned to an act of self-regulation...it's how free-thinking people in a community operate. When our authority figures fail to protect our perceived standards, we take the matter in hand ourselves. So it was before mods were here, and so it will be anytime you fail us.
That you suppressed this public censure after failing to do so yourself just compounds the insult, in my opinion. I disagree that the thread where the transgression occurred is the appropriate place for its discussion...I doubt the lady who created it intended to become mired in such a nasty exchange, and would likely prefer that discussion remain aligned with her OP. You seem to be suggesting that it's appropriate to hijack any thread where hostilities erupt with a further discussion of same. That sounds like a design for chaos to me. Much better to take the fight offline...or at least not fuck up someone else's sincere discussion by continuing it.
If you won't deal with the monsters in our midst, at least don't disrespect the members by impeding their voice of indignation.

That was also before there was a ToS. There is one now. There are rules and guidlines and procedures in place and everyone is expected to follow them.
2. "If you won't deal with..."
It was being dealt with. On two fronts. Both of which DF knew about well before she started the thread. Lets be clear on that much. The result wasn't to the degree or swift enough to suit her. THAT was the reason for the removed thread.

Underage members aside, it's horrendously vague and prescribes no objective accountability. But this is hardly news. Quote:

THAT was the reason for the removed thread. | The point being made is that your actions in dealing with it weren't adequate. The response was unacceptably soft, given the offense. This is why the members who were outraged by what was said were doubly enraged at the lack of consequence visited on Symphonic for saying it. I understand the delay that follows the moon, but there's no excuse for the weak response. Having failed to act appropriately to uphold a standard of basic human decency, the members acted in our own interest. It's something that should be commended, not sanctioned.

Keep in mind there is a huge contingent still sore that Spladle was banned after doing the exact same thing countless times and after being warned about it several times. Everybody has their own standard for what is and isn't bannable. I sincerely doubt you'd find any group who would agree on every point.
The thread was up for four hours. Garnered two whole responses. Why didn't you comment in it if you feel so strongly about this? Could it possibly be because you were sleeping? Could it? Because if that's the reason you didn't comment then you also have to concede that the "failure" on the part of the moderators to act was for a good reason. Shock and amazement! We sleep, too!
I'm hearing a lot of "noble purpose" justifications being tossed around, but I'm sorry, starting a thread because you didn't get what you wanted after three whole hours is petulant foot stomping in my book.
Try again. | | | |
