It might be semantics. Some of us don't reach full length with every erection. I've noticed a 1/2" variation here and there. Most of the time, I get hard and get off great, but I'm not at full length. When I'm super turned on, I reach full length. Those are the times that your dick is so hard it feels like it's going to break!

I think you have it exactly right. My experience bears this out; if I am tired for instance I can be quite hard and definitely erect while being quite a bit less than my normal size both in length and bulk. On the other hand there are times (even in my 50s) when a really powerful erection makes me bigger than normal, mostly in girth and especially in the size of the head, but in length also. A half inch variation would understate the difference.

I think it should be assumed that when someone say I am X inches long that it imples I am X + or - 0.3inch...depending on temp and arousal.

I think the majority of the knuckle heads who report such variation are really varying how close to their assholes they measure from. At full erection, there is very very little difference in size if measured properly on the top from the pubic bone. The number of people on here who claim to have ridiculous dick sizes or who think 8 or 9 inches is somehow normal gives a good clue as to how many measure from underneath.

The truth behind this seems to be erection quality. Some guys, myself included, don't reach 100% erection on a normal basis (ED sucks =D) so measurements are usually taken at an 80-90% erection. However, some people/ideas/situations/etc. get us up there. However, unless we're speaking flaccid, 1/2 inch does sound like a whole lot.

In my case the differing erection size is definitely true, but I guess like was mentioned before, you are basically as big as your biggest "honest" measurement. I can be totally hard and aroused and be just over 7 inches and then I can be super aroused and closer to 8. I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I don't think there is a way to get an exact measurement. I'm more comfortable saying I'm somewhere between 7-8" rather than 7.234 whatever...so I usually just say 7.5 inches (for all the times I'm talking about my cock size which is basically never).
