Geneology

Amusing/interesting AP story today on tracing the bloodlines of the 3 Presidential candidates.

The Associated Press: Obama Related to Pitt, Clinton to Jolie

Anybody have someone notable in their distant family trees that they know of?

I'm too much of a math moron to figure out sixth cousins once removed, though from what I understand I'm 3rd or 4th cousins with Mark Wahlberg and have some blood-connection to South American revolutionary Bernardo O'Higgins. Go me!

I don't know of anyone famous that I'm related to, but that was kinda cool to read.

Supposedly Henry II through one of the many many many bastards he sired, so I think I can still nail Prince Harry and it technically doesn't count as incest! Woohoo!

My mother has published several genealogy books. According to her research I'm Prince Charle's cousin 27 times removed.

And still, no tiara.

If "the legend" is true (meaning I have all of my links correct which I doubt), then I'm Queen Elizabeth II's 22nd cousin once removed (my common ancestor would have been Edward I). Then with that connection I would be descended from everyone - William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, etc.

Closer to today's times, nobody really famous. I have 7 Revolutionary War ancestors however. If you haven't already guessed - I'm really into genealogy - it's a kind of sickness LOL.

It's interesting stuff all right. I am in fact directly related to this guy:

Abel Tasman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Tasman surname is all throughout my family and my grandparents are from the very same town as him. Nothing too glamarous, but it is a very direct bloodline.

Cool - do you have your direct line back to him? I looked at the GenForum for the Tasman name and there's not much there.

I'm related to Ben Franklin... Direct lineage. Of course, there are thousands of us who are related to Ben Franklin by direct lineage in Britain, France, and here in the USA.

That shit is hilarious!!! 27th and 22nd cousins once removed, Daniel Boone, Ben Franklin. I usually find that most people's genealogies are filled with errors and are more based on self importance than actual facts. You guys might want to do some more unbiased research into the subject... 27th and 22nd cousins once removed is laughable. You guys might be legit, but the chances are not in your favor... most everyone that lives in the U.S. are descended from ordinary serfs and common folk.
