Right now Obama may be saying one thing. But, if he wins the nomination and he finds out Clinton will take the VP spot and Obama knows that Clinton won't change her mind. He will ask her.
Hillary is looking for a place in history. At age 60 Hillary knows that she might not get another chance. Being the first female vice president is still major historical event. And considering how many vice presidents have moved up, it would be her best chance at becoming President one day.
Obama knows that he needs the Clinton voters to win the white house. Clinton has already made it public that she wants Obama has her running mate. |
A Place in history is what both will have to consider. For Obama the Vice Presidency is feasible and then running as the heir apparent being six years younger than Sen. Clinton is now. The option of the VP spot is not feasible for Sen. Clinton. How exactly would should run after Obama? Besides should Obama somehow surmise that he belongs on the top of the ticket, he would be fully persuaded that he can beat McCain based on his own hype. In the case of believing the hype, Obama will most likely lose. It's more likely that Obama will realize that he can't win the Presidency this election and will take a win win as VP and go on to run for President.

Obama himself on several occasions has recognized that his campaign has had its problems.
If you can't beat them, join them. It's always been about who's the best candidate if you were hiring for a job of President. Do you take the woman who was trained by one of the best Presidents of the corporation or the new young guy with savvy talk of change and charm? In these times of war and economic recession its best to go with the candidate who knows the most. Inspiration isn't overrated but its definitely a bottom of the ticket item.

This election cycle has been unprecedented. This is the toughest primary in the history of primaries. No race has been closer. The Democratic process is so difficult Democrats have been daunted. The American climate is so bad we talk more about Hillary and Barack than we do about Pres. Bush dancing on the White House Steps waiting for McCain while 4 tour military personnel continually die in a War that Bush lied to the American people about. This election has Hillary Clinton the first woman and Barack Obama the first African American posed to possibly be the nominee. This election cycle has seen a 46 year up start, his first time out of the blocks, with a scant political resume consisting of no foreign policy experience, a state legislative tenure, an unfinished US Senate term, a few years as a lawyer, a few years learning community organizing to make it farther than governors and mayors with executive experience, lifelong Senators and Congressmen with pages of experience. This election cycle has seen the media fail to scrutinize a candidate and treat him with kid gloves. No other candidate has faced what Hillary Clinton faced. Not even Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton enjoyed the majority of the African American Vote and was affectionately dubbed the first African American President as he was not running against a viable African American candidate.
Hillary Clinton has faced the toughest circumstances and unfairness and sexism associated with this election cycle and being the first woman to cross this threshold the best way any woman could. She is fighting valiantly just as any man...for the privilege of being President.
