The age of consent isn't the same the world over. She is still a minor in the both the US (under which jurisdiction this site operates) and in the UK.

well 16 in the UK is the legal age of consent and you could buy fags (cigarettes) legally at that age till a few years ago, so please forgive my ignorance on this matter.

what i meant by the cigarette thing was that your more or less legal for most things at 16 except driving (17) and drinking (18) in the uk.

Miss Surrey is overweight. She is also 16, and an overweight 16 year old is likely to put on even more weight as they stop growing. Her weight does not appear to be distributed as muscle, rather it is simply fat. She has a weight problem, a serious one.

The message presented in sections of the UK press is that it is perfectly okay to be like Miss Surrey and that being her weight is no problem. The message that we should be getting across is that overweight, particularly in a person just 16 years old, is a serious health problem. Okay the fashion for stick-thin models is wrong, but so too is this.

I feel genuine pity for, and am ashamed of, people who think she's obese or close to it.


A quick note to some people: muscle weighs more than fat. A person of mass X can weigh more than a person of mass X+1, and vice versa.
