| | | communal showers guys have you ever used communal showers? How did you feel the first time using them?(anxiety, etc...)Do you avoid them or are you indefferent?
I was 15 or 16 at the time. I was mortified but I had no choice I was away at camp for a week. It was the first time I showered with other guys so naturally I compared myself to them without being obvious. For the most part I faced the wall and never turned around except to leave. Now I could careless and have no problem using them if I need to.

| | | I have never had a reason or chance to use one. As a kid I think I would rather have died.. I'm much better now as I would only hope for a slight stroke | | | |

oh yes, i remember it well. just like the guy says here, that was how it was for me to, well the school showers anyway. ( had no summer camp)
but now, like to day and every sunday, after swimmimg, strip off and go and get a nice shower, sod em, we are all the same. i think it is just an age thing, when you are young, don't let anybody see your tail.

| | | Schools in UK have communal showers.
Gyms in UK usually have communal showers, eg LA Fitness (a big chain).
Some public swimming pools in UK have communal.
Europe is mostly communal - certainly Eastern Europe and Nordic countries.
It's just normal. | | | |

| | | Private boarding school at age 13 or so. Petrified at first but if that's all you have available, you quickly deal with it. In the two years I was there I only saw one boner - a very effeminate guy - but I had sex with a number of guys while I was there who never got wood in the shower. | | | |

| | | I've used communal showers for 20 years. I prefer communal showers to the stalls which are becoming more common place and I absolutely detest. When I was growing up, communal showers were the norm, not the exception that they are today. We've all got the same equipment, so let it hang and enjoy the comraderie and male bonding that comes along from the experience. It's a right of passage that every guy should experience. I was intimidated the first time that I used them (20 years ago), but I just dropped my swimsuit and never looked back. This ridiculous modesty that has gripped the younger generation of men is just that - RIDICULOUS! I get a kick out of getting naked in front of them just to see their reaction. I refuse to use a stall or cover up in the locker room, steam room, sauna and shower. The funny thing is that when the younger shy guys see me doing it, they end up doing the same! I'm not afraid, embarrassed or ashamed of doing something that is completely natural and has been done for thousands of years among men. | | | |

| | Banned | Started using communal showers when I was about 9 when I first took swimming lessons at the local pool and the local Y. Then Jr. High and then High School and after that when I started going to gyms to workout. Never felt anything but natural for me. | | | |

| | | What's with this communal/public shower topic that keeps showing up? There's probably two or three (total guess) threads on this already and from reading most of the posts it sounds as though mens changing rooms in gyms, universities, public swimming pools and high schools have been retrofitted to match the puritanical ideal of never showing any skin. I fully expect when I return to the US this year I'll find that young men are afraid to show their ankles on tennis and basketball courts for fear of being ridiculed as immodest!
Some people's kids these days. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
And by the way, "Good luck with that."

| | | I already told about my first time.
Boner even before entering the locker room.
I had to wear the shower suit and thanks god the showers were not communal in that gym.
With a lot of time, patience and naturism I learned to manage my emotions and control my erection.
>This ridiculous modesty that has gripped the younger generation of men is just that - RIDICULOUS!
I think guys have a right not to be seen, especially if there are old pervs going there just to ogle at them - that's not my fantasy, I'm just thinking of their notes I've read in internet.
I think a mix situation would be the better, some shower with curtains for shy or reserved guys and a communal shower.
...and if you hope the society will get less prudish it has to be a progressive thing, not a shock, if you have only communal showers, no one will have a shower.
>I get a kick out of getting naked in front of them just to see their reaction. I refuse to use a stall or cover up in the locker room, steam room, sauna and shower. The funny thing is that when the younger shy guys see me doing it, they end up doing the same!
yeah that's what happen to me, shy people just need someone to show them, then if they want they know what to do.
same for taking off the t-shirt, I used to go to a place where I never saw a shirtless guy (because they're all drunk and fat or skinny), it sounds egocentric said by me but after some months it became a contagious thing and one (fat) guy I fancied also started to have a healthier life and he's fucking fit now!!
>I'm not afraid, embarrassed or ashamed of doing something that is completely natural and has been done for thousands of years among men.
Yes, and the fascism that is wrapping the world since 911 both sides of the ponds want people being ashamed of their nudity.
Not very different from the taliban burka on women.

I have mentioned in other posts and on other threads that I don't think the LR or shower is a place for guys perving on other guys. Guys that are there for the purpose would be better suited to hang out in a bath house instead of a gym to get their kicks. A gym is not the place for that sort of behaviour. That being said, I don't think it will ever stop. There are and always have been a few creepy guys in every gym that are there to get their kicks. Normally I just wait for them to finish up before using the showers by hanging out in the sauna.
To clarify, when I mentioned that I get a kick out of other guys reactions to seeing me not give into this hysteria about nudity, what I meant by that was that I like to show other guys that it is a normal thing to do without feelings of fear or shame ( NOTHING sexual). Unfortunately, this is what young men have been taught to believe, and I think that is wrong.

| | | my junior high school had a communal shower where we all had to shower after gym period... so did my high school. then i was in the navy where i encountered more open bay showers... so really im used to it. although in junior high nobody seemed to mind stripping down and showering in front of each other where as in high school everyone was more private and covered up some how, but in the navy people didnt care... in fact commenting on eachothers dick was a common occurance, whether it was big or small... | | | |
