This has to be the most interesting/informative thread i have viewed in 12 months odd? LPSG I say that because of the LACK of Sexual Innuendo...-GREAT fr a Change - and with the fact that i am learning so much of the American Male Culture etc.incl the European version of showers/lockeroom threads etc.........sorry i cant contribute re NZ Showers,as never went to University or such/ being more of a country person prior to my other working life Schools over here dont have Showers as such/Geuss the Uni Gyms do. I find in this thread that its so SAD to hear of the youngsters USA virtually being suppressed of showering in a Natural Situation/Bonding with there Peers etc..a very sad state of affairs. I can only imagine what the Youngsters could possibly grow up to be.....more work for the Counsellor/Therapist types/ yet another Industry springing up.i already note that its quite a thing USA to have your own Therapist for whatever affliction it may be perceived you have?etc (generalising maybe/sorry) I was particularly intrigued with Domisoldo and Sundudes take on the matter..so definitly TRUE' i am sure -.very much like the PC MADNESS that has taken over the Globe. The first time I had to use a communal shower was when I was 12 at school camp.

I'm very shy and so it was very embarrassing.

Thought not as embarrassing as it would have been if it had taken place a year later when we were going through puberty.

Nobody at camp had pubes except for one guy who had been held back a year. Instead of showering with us, he pretended to get sick and went home.

Ten years later, I started going to the gym and, after some embarrassment at first (I'm not circumcised and everyone else seems to be), I got over it and I'm fine now. I don't even have a towel around me when I go into the steam room or even head to the lockers.

I don't care who sees my cock now.

Being acutely selfconscious seems pretty common for teenagers. When I was about 16 or so I was very embarrassed about communal showers because I thought my cock was too big... and everyone would think I was having an erection (which would probably promot an erection anyway). It was only when I did military service that I realised that there were men with much bigger cocks than mine, and that was the end of that hang-up.

We had communal showers in Middle School (we called it "Junior High" back then), High School and in my dormitory at college. When I joined a fraternity house in my sophomore year, we all shaved and brushed our teeth naked in addition to the communal showers. It wasn't unusual for someone to have their 'morning wood' in there, either. Come on, we all were nineteen to twenty-two and of course we had boners (some guys had them most of the time!) It was no big deal.

When I go to my gym now and see these young guys wrap themselves up in a towel (like a mummy) to hide their nudity, I really find that sad. Some guys wear a bathing suit to the shower (and there's no pool!)

I feel more comfortable with my body and don't try to hide my nudity in the lockerroom.

When I was a pre-teen, we used to go to the community indoor pool, which was actually called the "bath house". It was also the locals showers for people who didn't have a shower. (This was in the late sixties). It was there I saw other boys showering. It was a huge turn on for me. But it was also kind of scarey, as there were some older boys and men there as well. Later I had a boy who used to pick on me daily, ask me if I wanted to see his dick. We went into the same changing room. I was quite larger than he was. I thought that would have end the endless teasing. It only got worse, as he started calling me a faggot. Strange, I haven't thought about that in years.

To this day i am still embarrassed by my size, or lack there of. being just 5.5 inches hard is awkward enough. But on top of all that, after a workout at the gym, my junk shrivels to maybe 1.5 or 2 inches. Just wondering how you bigger guys react when seeing someone who is not so well endowed.

Don't have any hang ups about communal showers because growing up they were the norm. Everyone showered, checked each other out, horsed around, toweled off and got dressed.

The truth of the matter is... most straight guys are just jealous that gay guys get to see a bunch of cock but they don't get to see a bunch of pussy in communal showers. So they cover up!

On a more serious note, some girlfriends of mine have complained that women's showers are almost always stalled. They want to know why American society decided that women are "dirty" and can't see each other naked. They think of it as a form of sexism. Huh... who'd have thunk?

Ironically, the curtained stalls common in NYC (NYSC) vastly encourage sexual behavior.

I spent some time working out at many of them duing a stint in Manhattan.

Almost invariably, all the curtains had holes in them (at eye level of course). Average shower time may have been 8.87 times what it would have been in a fully open setting.

I also noticed some other inconsistent behavior: guys almost invariably draw the curtains all the way when one is available, but then they will walk around in the buff in the lockerroom / sauna / steam room for several minutes sometimes, even sporting a full-on (in the steam room)...

I only had to communal shower once at the YMCA in south carolina. I was there on a habitat for humanity trip and we were sleeping at churches and the only place we could shower was at the Y. it was me and a few muscular frat boys and it was awkward at first but we were so grateful for a shower it made no difference. was fun checking them out for size. the one guy was in the corner but had a really nice ass lol.

I've noticed that as well Domisoldo in my current gym. The guy closes the curtain tightly when showering, but then parades around in the nude for about 10 minutes after - I saw it just the other day. Can anyone out there that does this explain why? I sure don't get it. I don't even bother closing the curtain when showering in a stall shower at the gym.
