My doctor gives the apron gown with the back out of it. I have underwear on.

Typically, for a complete annual physical patients are asked to remove all clothing and wear a "hospital gown" with the opening in the back.....(I'm a registered nurse)

I was just wondering what most people experience. During sports physicals we were all in our underwear, my family doctor growing up had us in underwear, but my most recent physical it was piece meal. Gradually taking off clothing as he checked out each area.

I was stripped down to my underwear with a gown. The underwear came off when required.

My Doc is a woman and a smokin' hot one at that. I strip down for a sore throat. *smirk*

I really don't understand it, but until he died, I used to take my Dad to his medical appointments. He was over age 65. When he was in the examining room, I was there, too and he would only take off his shirt. If that. Every 6 week - 2 months he would have a follow up visit, monitoring blood-pressure and blood-sugar level.

I always stripped down to my underpants when I went for my physical exams. That way the doctor could check everything with ease and we wouldn't be wasting his time fumbling with clothes. He could also see if I had skin rashes, scars swelling of joints, etc. Now-a-days doctors can't be wasting time when they see a patient. They have 15-20 minutes to get you in and out so you need to be ready when they have to give EKG, do knee reflex checks, draw blood, listen to heart, lungs etc.

When you are fully un-dressed, the doc can see everything and quickly do what he/she needs to do without fumbling with clothes.

Most of my adult life I have had internists for primary care. Due to changing circumstances my current primary doc is family practice. Internists have consistently had me naked with a gown. My current doc has me take off my shirt and drop-em as needed. Intuitively, naked seems more thorough but my current doc has been on top of things and I have no complaints.

Ha, amusing thread. For the primary care doc I remove my shirt and then other clothing as requested. With the urologist its drop trousers and do whatever I want above the waist.

I've had the same doctor for more than 20 years. Full physical is always completely nude. After the main physical, I get dressed again except fot the shirt and then the nurse comes in and does the EKG, after which I finish getting dressed, leave the urine sample in the bathroom and then go to the reception desk to get make a payment and get my payment receipt as well as schedule any follow up visits. Checkups for other things vary on what is being checked for what clothing items are removed.

My brother just had what is called a full skin exam for skin cancer screening and it was certainly full. The doctor told him to take his clothing off and the doc literally checked out every square inch. He said it was pretty invasive: even looked in his butt crack, his ball bag, etc.
