Well, for starters, the OP says "ladies and gentlemen", so no matter what was expected, that statement opened it to everyone, and as has been pointed out, the majority of members, are men. So, when open to "all", follow the percentages. It shouldn't be a mystery why so many men respond to an equally applicable topic. The "women's section" issue... I've seen this complaint many times, but to be fair, most people don't really pay attention to where a post is posted, with some exceptions, on first glance. I rarely go into forums, to pick the threads that I'm going to read. I typically just look at the "Latest Threads/Posts" sidebars, and pick threads according to the thread title. It's only when something in the thread causes me to start scrutinizing the post, that I THEN look up and take notice of where it's posted.
