In re Tina... I honestly don't know. I don't THINK so, but I was among many people backstage and the media center who were both incredibly impressed by Tina and scared for her. She's pushing 70, and still a spitfire, but by the end of that number she was clearly exhausted. She left for the airport immediately after the performance so I'm guessing she was okay.

I did not see Daft Punk in the raw. Er, meaning without the helmets. No one was allowed in their dressing room who didn't work for them. The mystery persists. I heard a rumor they are really the "Air" guys, but I have no idea the veracity of that.

John Mayer was a very late addition to the show and left as soon as he was offstage. He actually struck me as bit of a boor. Quite pleased with himself. Not too jokey.

^^ Oh YEAH!!! I forgot about that moment.

The way he was messing with "RiRi" was like boys in my hood mess with chicks that they're secretly banging. I also liked how she didn't even touch Beyonce and how Solange looked at her with slight contempt. It was too telling.

They are very, very cool guys. I've actually had a few run ins with them. Very down to earth, normal, fun, funny rocker types. Don't take themselves too seriously. They are exactly the kind of guys you'd want to get drunk with in a dive bar.

I'm a PR guy. I don't want to get too specific as to exactly who/what I do PR for out of concern for my job, but usually when I'm at events I'm there in a public relations capacity. Sometimes I'm a guest of someone more important than me . But usually I'm there in a PR capacity.

My favorite moment of the show was probably the Rihanna/Time number. I don't know how well it translated on TV, but live it was AWESOME. Plus there was me and about a dozen other people backstage doing that zig-zag dance move going "oh we oh we oh" - too great.

My favorite moment you didn't see had to be Chaka Khan's manager having a nuclear hissy fit while we were trying to get her makeup artist credentialed to enter the media center. I've witnessed a lot of hissy fits over the past few years but holy frijoles this one was hilarious. I've seen people argue about human rights with less passion than this guy had for Chaka Khan's makeup.

The reaction to Herbie Hancock winning Album of the Year, by the way, was not unlike when I watched this year's Super Bowl in a born-and-raised-in-Boston household. Total shock and disbelief. Up to that point it was a foregone conclusion that Amy Winehouse would win.

I did not catch the Rihanna/Jay-Z thing. Interesting. If he's fucking her that's the first I've heard of it. I know she's devoted to him because he signed her and basically crafted her into who she is. She's very young too. I know that no one carries more weight than him when it comes to influence on her. But I don't think I've ever heard serious rumors about him stepping out on Beyonce. Doesn't mean he isn't, of course. But it's news to me. I'll keep an ear to the ground though.

Awesome, thank you! It always kinda sucks when you find out someone you like is a prick in person, but good to know these guys are down to earth.

Forgot to add, they are very goofy too. In the best possible way. Lots of joke cracking, very playful. Fun seems to erupt whenever they're around. And they're really well-liked within the music industry, especially Dave. Even people you wouldn't think of being "buddies" with the Foos because of different genres/personas (Fergie, Puffy and Faith Hill/Tim McGraw all come to mind) love 'em some Foos.

really? LOL at the Chaka Khan thing! i didn't even see her on TV. pleese! you must keep filling us (screw them, i mean me) about all of the things you see in LA.

with the Rihanna thing, i thought it seemed kinda rude how Jay-Z was trying to speak for her as she was sharing her moment with her father. and yeah, i've even seen stuff where it's alleged that he beats Beyonce! but you can't believe everything you hear.

and i thought Tina and Beyonce's duet/number must've been fab in person! soooo jealous. :P

Chaka didn't perform/present but she won 2 awards during the "pre-tel" - which is right before the telecast in the convention center, that's where the 4,687 awards they don't give out live get handed out. So she came backstage during the show to talk to press and get her portrait done, etc. I was humming "Tell Me Something Good" for about an hour after that.

Thankfully I ran out in time to see the Tina/Beyonce duet - I missed the solos. I mean, first of all "Proud Mary" is such an awesome song its already practically ridiculous. The way those two did it was electrifying.

oh yeah, on TV, they had very brief glimpses of who won what during the "pre-tel".i could barely see who won what, but i was glad i caught Michael Buble winning something for his latest album, and Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige getting a won for their gospel duet "Never Gonna Break My Faith". (it is what Aretha sang with BeBe Winans when she first came out in her performance.)

and yes! it was so good even on TV. in person, must have been awesome. i saw at the end, it looked like Tina hurt herself. She did great though. A part of me was hoping she did "Private Dancer" too, but i was satisfied with Proud Mary.
