FREE annual credit reports

You can now check your credit rating without charge once a year from all three credit reporting agencies. Since credit scores vary between the three (which, to me, is stupid!), it's wise to choose one now, another one towards the middle of the year and the last of the three near the end of the year. You can call 1 877 322-8228 or www.ftc.gov/bcp/pubs/credit/freereports.shtm.

If you do the web site, look for the "annual credit report request form" and print off copy.

BTW, I'm not an employee of any government or credit reporting agency and get no compensation for posting this.

Try https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Best idea is to get one report every 4 months so at the end of a year you have seen reports from all three credit reporting agencies and then you can start over. This technique gives you a peek periodically during the year at no cost.

Note that you don't get your FICO score (a.k.a. credit score) for free - you have to pay for that, and it may vary by credit reporting agency.

Also, avoid sites like freecreditreport.com - it is NOT free. They'll give you a report, but only after you agree to pay for credit monitoring for a period of time.

Sorry about the link...I thought I copied it down correctly.
But Visual Alert is on the ball.

You can also try www.annualcreditreport.com.

Yeah, they've done this for two years now. It's good information, though! But... as far as I know, you can get your report for free, but have to pay for your actual credit score.

Whooptidoo.

What a great idea, giving identity thieves an idea as to whose identity they should steal.

Don't be mad at me because you can't pay your bills on time.

I have a card that has as special feature giving the FICO score free every month, but I don't know why. I never asked for it, but have a large line with them and customer for 9 years, maybe that's it. So I never do the TransUnion separately (and I think that's the one they use.)
