A&F Manager Arrested on Obscenity Charges for Displaying Ads

People need lives is what I think. It would be one thing to complain if they actually were showing breasts. But it's another when they aren't. Someone has a personal beef with A&F.

is part of a discussion in the Et Cetera, Et Cetera forum that includes topics on Off-topic postings, current events, rants and raves....

If I was inbred and narrow-minded, I'd think pictures of people without 3 toes and 8 nipples was pretty obscene, too.

We're talking about Virginia here...not the US, which could drop the whole state without even noticing a change in the national GDP...Let them act locally and have their way...if that's really how those people want to live there.

Those sorry folks do not represent the whole US population. A&F is, after all, marketed as "All American" itself.

I think it's the majority that decides what's majorily offensive. But I can't see many people getting up in arms about a bunch of topless men..

No, I agree, it was strictly a local event. However, I do stick to the idea that Americans, broadly speaking, are uptight about the body and sex.

Those catalogues aren't seen as having healthy, young, free-spirited chums, romping around, and basking in the bucolic splendor of Greater America, in traditionally inspired, faux-vintage threads. They're seen as "racy", sex catalogues, that people can't wait to get a hold of, to see how far they go THIS time. They're titillating because they show skin, and the Gap doesn't. A&F knows this, so they keep showing more and more, and masterfully push our buttons visually, and otherwise, getting us to buy into the fantasy of the possibility of finding ourselves with our friendly and inviting eye candy, in impossibly "innocent", sexually suggestive, situations. "I could have hot friends like that, and we could all go play touch-football, with the boys bare-chested, and the girls in bikini tops, and all of us with our pants unzipped, our underwear peeking out, because we're all so free, and ending in a writhing pile of us, where we all just laugh and laugh, and can't believe we're all such great, beautiful friends."

Sorry to be ignorant about all this, but what was the big deal about the A&F catalogues ? Were they really that obscene and very gay overturative ? Like they were full of Monster like guys who looked like they were about to get it on right there and then ?

if he ever sets foot in Virginia, I suppose the locals will hog tie him and start praying for his soul. Or is it South Carolina they do that?

A&F is totally obscene. Lookin' at a Abercrombie catalog will totally make you turn queer, y'all. For reals. I read it on some website someplace.

Great guess WellHung! They were indeed full of guys like Monster - dangerously sexy, beautiful, ripped, athletic, sweaty guys telepathically saying "you want to lick me" and "you can put this in your mouth, I don't mind." Or at least that's what they were saying to me.

In fact if they made another one we'd have to pool the resources of LPSG to petition for Monster to be featured on the cover. Spread-eagled on a feather bed.

What is with me tonight? I'm being so... flirty.

Well, according to an AOL poll, a slim majority also finds the posters obscene. If you want to vote in the poll yourself...

I'm fairly sure that this is a rhetorical question. That aside, my dealings with police officers (in my past life as a lawyer) suggest that, NO, cops do not read Supreme Court decisions or case law. Their job is to arrest people. Whether the people they arrest are the right people is almost beside the point.
