Is it better to love or be loved in a relationship

In a relationship would you rather A) be totally in love with someone, but he/she only likes you a little or B) only like someone a little, but he/she is totally in love with you.

is part of a discussion in the Relationships, Discrimination, and Jealousy forum that includes topics on Friends, family, co-workers, significant others....

(I realize the ideal situation is both parties are totally in love, but that's not an option.)

I could love someone so dearly even without any form of reciprication, yet if I were on the receiving end and did not love them back, I'm not sure how I'd feel.

B may be more rewarding, but I think I would prefer A.

Both are bad choices but for me I'd choose A.

I like to give love and show love. I love to show the genuineness of my affections. It's up to my partner to receive it and I would have no regrets either way if the relationship lasted or failed. At the very least I showed love.

Excellent question! I choose B.

The truth is that in most relationships one person loves just a little bit more than the other. I have experienced both in my life, B is better.

Sorry but I can't choose! I think I'd rather be alone than have to choose.

Seems like most people say B. I guess with A you enjoy being with the person but it can hurt if you know they don't love you back as much. But while it lasts it could be fun.

The problem with B is that you see your partner in love and happy, but you may not be as happy and that hurts over time. It makes you want to be as deeply in love.

I think I'd choose B in general, but I'd like to experience A just once to understand it (as crazy as that sounds).

Thanks for the responses.

I've been in both situations and they both suck. One would think that "B" would be easier, but it's not necessarily. Either one is a recipe for relationship disaster.

Well, Jovial, I'd rather have C or D....

C) You're both madly in love with each other

D) You're good friends who fuck now and again, with neither one falling in love

Both A and B would drive me nuts after a while.

I agree 100%, hotmilf. How about we try option D.

Who stays in a relationship where all they feel is like for the other person or vice versa?

Well obviously C is the one I want! I think we all want to be equally in love with each other.

I don't think I am emotionally equipped for option D, again. I have had D; and it was great while it lasted. He was the older brother of a gf from high school, Italian-American, and a US Marine. He was my first FWB before I even heard of that term. Our'couplings' occurred over the course of 3 presidencys. After a while it just left me feeling empty.

What if he or she is loving you 110% the best that they can, yet it doesn't even come close to how you love at 95%? That's what I was thinking of when I answered B. If a relationship gets to the point where I feel, I like the guy but no longer love him that much. I'm outta there. Seriously, it happend to me once, I knew that he loved me, and I had grown to like him.

Well, I guess he/she would stay and hope that their love would grow to match their partner's love. But you are right, over time that person would eventually decide to leave.

But how long should one give oneself to fall in love with someone??? Should you leave as soon as your partner's feelings get stronger than yours?
