I sleep very heavily, and have been told kick my legs and roll over relatively often. But I like my beer, have a condition which fatigues me and I also talk painkillers which slightly sedate me for said condition. So actually, it's a real fear for me.

One kid (the oldest) was clingy -- the other two weren't.

I blame LACK of attention (not sleeping with me) as the cause of my oldest's clinginess. I used to come home at midnight, after being gone all day, and the poor kid would be awake in the crib waiting for me while the babysitter snored on the couch. I worked seven days a week, his dad was almost always out of town -- the kid saw very little of his parents.

I quit my job when he was 26 months old and spent the next two years as a stay at home mom. By the time the kid was four, he was totally recovered from any clinginess.

Like many things I guess it's a matter of personal choice as to how one wants to run one's household. Children sleeping with parents vary within cultures/societies and sometimes based on tribal traditions, cultural customs, and even economics. There have been theories, pro and con, bandied about regarding the practice. Like a poster above said, "Whatever works best..."

BTW our kids never ever slept with us, not as toddlers or infants, and they seem to have turned out just fine.

We rarely got an uninterrupted night until the kids started school, they'd wake in the night and come and get in our bed. They'd start off the night in their own beds so our sex life didn't suffer too much.

My son slept with my wife and I on and off until he was about 3 years old. Seemed perfectly natural. Never even thought about it.

I knew you were a women. My kids slept with us, scared me to death. Many nights I would sleep in the guest room. My wife did not have any fear. I think that women honestly have something in them that does not allow them to role over.

I'm not for it or against..but you have to be careful. The new-new babies always sleep in the crib.

I don't think it's a good idea to make it a habit, but there are always those times when it may seem like it's the best thing to do. When my kids were babies they would once in awhile sleep with us. I think it is important that it doesn't become a habit because it is too easy for a couple who are totally in love with their child to forget to be in love with eachother. The love the parents have for eachother is important and needs to be nurtured as well...it is important for the kids to see that as they grow up.

Nah, there were several times that I rolled over in bed and would awaken immediately if any part of my body touched our babies. They slept in a bassinet beside the bed, but my wife would often bring them to bed to nurse and fall asleep. I would have no idea that the baby was there until a touch, then bang - wide awake. The babies usually slept right on through it.

When they outgrew the bassinet, they moved to a crib in their own room. Now, they only sleep with us when they are sick. And, they are not clingy children.

We chose to keep the kids out of our bed. This was also the recommendation of our pediatrician tho we're aware there are different schools of thought. The kids are 8, 5 and 3. They seem well adjusted to their own beds and respect ours as much as you can expect from kids at those ages. The 8 yr old occassionally tries to amuse the 3 yr old on weekend mornings but generally the noise has the neighbors up too. Anyway, this has worked for us.
