The other day when I was in the changing room there was another guy who was wearing panties (the lacy kind so I was pretty sure it wasn't guys underwear)... seemed weird as he did not seem the effeminate type.

then i thought back about one of my acquaintances who i know has worn panties/female underwear before. seems like it might not be so uncommon after all... i'd imagine it'd be a real tight fit though.

would there be any link between a guy's orientation and him wearing female underwear? or is it perfectly possible for a straight guy to enjoy wearing panties?

I'm aware that many bi and straight guys like wearing panties (not my bag but then never tried them) but I've never seen anyone showing them off in a public space.

Funny, I've never had any interest in dressing up in drag or womens' clothing. I'm one of the few gay dudes that I know who wears boxers instead of snug, sexy underwear.

I would probably be a little taken aback or surprised, but I wouldn't shame him or judge him.

However, I am surprised he would change in public and let other men see, especially when some men can become quite aggressive and verbally or physically attack someone.
