| | | Glute widening exercises? We know of the glute firming, lifting, and tightening exercises... but what can I do to widen it? You see jocks and gym boys with wide bubble butts. What, exactly, are they doing to get that? Does it HAVE to enlarge the thighs too? Because my thighs are already wide (wider than my tush by a smidge).
I do clenches (these only keep it lifted, really) and I've started doing "kickbacks" (thanks Vince!) but I'd like one of those widened tushies. And don't say "sit around" because, being a homebody, I do that a lot. :p So what can be done? I saw this machine that has you put you foot in a sling and pull back but I don't have one of those and I'm not currently in a gym (I'm trying to find one with a Pool that ISN'T the YMCA).
For the "be happy with what you have" crowd: I've got a very nice ass. It sticks out just far enough and is quite nicely shaped when viewed form the side. I'm happy with it but there is room for improvement in everything in life. Right now, my butt is pretty narrow when viewed from the back. I could take a photo to show you what I mean and I can find some examples of my goal.
Edit: The first attachment is my goal. The second is my current from behind(yes, the mirror NEEEEEDS washing XD). The third is just a nice one from the side. x3 The last 2 are just really nice asses... and I wouldn't mind mine looking like that. :3

| | | I think a lot of it is genetic. The main muscle is the gluteus maximus. Squats would hit this the best and this may be what the guys you see at the gym do a lot of. Also, any movement like that, like leg press (with your leg high on the platform works more of the glutes than the quads), and also hip abduction. See Hip Exercise Menu for other exercise ideas. | | | |

| | | I wasn't genetically gifted there either, I can grow a nice ass at the gym but when i stop it's all gone. Other guys, they don't even need the gym, all other muscles might go away but their butts stay somehow, store more fat, whatever. I'm contemplating butt implants. | | | |

| | | I saw your pictures. I don't think you have too far to go really to be like the butts in the other pictures. Quote:

Try something that uses more glutes and less quads like leg press with your feet up higher on the platform, or isolation exercise. I'm no expert at making bubble butts, so maybe someone else can give better advice.

| | | First of all, you DO have a very nice ass and I really don't see any need for "improvememnt." However, IMO, squats are the ticket. To some degree, your knees can get used to them, especially if you find the right position for your feet. For me, having my feet at about shoulder width pointing out works best. Another trick that has helped me and my partner is mentally focusing on using your glutes to do the lift. That seems to reduce strain on the knees. Finally, if you really want to gain, doing "negatives" will really help a lot. What I mean is, you have a workout partner stand behind you and, once you can't lift again have him/her help you with the lift a couple more times with you controlling the downward motion. There are two ways I have done this and seen it done. The workout partner squats behind you and extends his/her arms to grab your waist and lift. The more fun way is the workout partner stands close behind you, squats with you and reaches around your body and locks his/her arms around you then helps you lift. When I lived in Florida, this was the most common method. Here in northern california, no one even uses spotters. Sigh.
This is something I would gladly help you with.

| | | Thanks for the tips! :3 I don't have much chance at getting a spotter in my area, though. | | | |

| | | Personally, I'd hit that. You've got a sweet butt. I find that rollerblading definitely made my butt bigger and harder. Bike riding has also worked wonders. I love to exercise, but hate gyms. | | | |
