laser hair removal question

Does the hair need to be completely grown out to get this proceedure. I mean if lasers are taking the hair out from the folicle then can you have a shaven area lasered. So you can understand, I'm not jenny but her boyfriend, like most girls she doesn't like hairy asses. I shave mine but don't want to grow it out and walk in with a hairy ass. I thought it would be wierd if I started talking about a hairy butt with a name like jennnithornton. A few raised eyebrows and wonderings if I was the bearded lady at the circus. Someone help?

You shouldn't wax, pluck, or use depilatory cream or undergo electrolysis to remove hair for four weeks before treatment. They ask you not to shave for 4 days before so you shouldn't get too hairy in that time!

actually i think the hair needs to be at least long enough to been seen, the tech needs to locate the folicale.

Jenni is right. My wife had her bum, armpits, and crotch (thank you Lord!!) done and the 4 day number seems about right.

A question though. If a bloke gets his facial hairs done, will it leave him completely smooth and not have that 'darkness' on the skin where the hair grows through ?

My wife said that it depends on the settings they use for the laser. They typically start with a mild setting, but if they're not getting results after the first few sessions they crank up the laser and drop a small nuclear weapon on your crotch.

She's generally not in good mood after these sessions. I always say "What's the big deal, you were at the spa all day."

I can say, from personal experience... yes and no.

Depends on the thickness/density of hair, whether or not the nurse/doc presribed Emla (lidocaine/prilocaine topical anesthetic), and how well you wrapped yourself up like a turkey after thanksgiving dinner. (allow at LEAST one hour!)

As a rather tall man, legs weren't too bad, but bikini area really had me squirming until another helping of emla had kicked in. (10,000+ pulses!)

No, it does not need to be grown out.

The lasers work by basically heating up the pigment of the hair and vaporizing it. ...this damages the root and prevents/retards regrowth. Hair that is above the skin simply smokes away and the room starts to smell of burned hair. Ew.

Expect at least two to three treatments. Hair has three stages (basically growing, grown and dormant) and the light only affects hair that is growing. You gotta go back to tag hair that was dormant then and is now growing.

The only 100% no-no is waxing. Anything that rips the hair out by the root leaves nothing for the laser to hit.

And definitely talk to the person doing the treatment. She is probably female and will be sticking that high powered laser where the sun was never meant to shine. You are entitled to ask questions and you really gotta get over any self-consciousness you have.

I've had treatment done using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) which is different than Laser treatment and regarded as more effective and less painful. Same idea as Laser, but a different technology.

If you are considering permanent hair removal you might want to consider this technique instead of laser.

Also, it depends on your hair color. The laser uses the pigment in your hair to travel to the root, where it basically bakes the folicle. The ideal candidate has dark hair, but light skin. I you have blond hair, don't waste you money, no matter what they tell you about the effectiveness, because you'll just end up getting countless treatments, with little, to no, results.

Oh, and they often shave you, because you can't have much of the hair showing. The reason is that the hair, long enough to lay on the skin, heated up by the laser, could actually burn your skin.

I had my 'beard' lasered. Yes, I said Beard. ;)

After my daughter was born, the hair on my chin just got darker and denser, and no matter how much I plucked (or ended up shaving!) it just wouldn't stay away for more than a few days. So I paid some multiple hundreds of dollars, had it taken care of, and now about a year later the hair is all but gone! :D I had one treatment every six weeks or so (it took my skin THAT long to recover - the BF said it looked like a light-saber battle. LOL) for almost a year. It doesn't feel good - kind of like a small, hot rubber band snap. And YES it smells like burnt hair... but if you take care of the area and go through with the treatment it can work. The nurse that treated me said to shave the area, but DON'T PLUCK for four weeks prior to the laser, but the hair on my chin was VERY dark and coarse and my skin is pretty damn pale.

Just wondering about getting the ass done, how far wil they go with the laser, for example between the cheeks.

Also, do they do the middle of the brow?

I have read of a process used in the UK that destroys hair with sound waves. Therefore, the color of the hair and skin are irrelevant. Does anyone know more about this and whether it is available yet in the US?
