I've shared a bed with male friends on several occassions. One that comes to mind was when we were all on vacation together and were horsing around, then decided to see if we could all fit in the same bed. It was a regular double bed. The answer was yes. I think there were four guys there, but one left for the floor after a little while do to body heat. There was no snuggling, but jokes about doing so, more of a laugh than anything.
I think that would be kind of uncommon today though unless all persons involved were really secure in their sexuality, whatever it may be. Granted I was afraid of "poking" someone in the night, so I slept facing outwards. Had it happened, I have a feeling I'd have been ostrocised, but nothing more.
With female friends I am slightly more uncomfortable because there was an ocassion where I was lying next to them, getting ready to sleep, but was nervous about getting hard. So of course it happened. They shifted once and bumped into me, but I decided to stay put in hopes they didn't notice. They shifted again, and then moved away. I never brought it up with said friend, but I didn't want her to get the wrong idea. With a guy it would've been a joke, but with her it was a problem. We're still friends though, so I can't imagine she even remembers
