| | | Anything with a whiny male lead or solo singer makes me spew. Same with songs that objectify women. Alanis' "My Humps" made me wet myself when I first saw it. First time I heard the first few notes of her cover of "Crazy" I went ballistic--some songs just need to be left alone!--then I recognized the newness brought to the song by her voice, and the video makes a lot more sesne than Mr Heidi Klum's original.
Give me Barry White's "Never Gonna Give You Up" An unforgettable voice with sexy lyrics...my partner Mike sang it to me at a karaoke bar on a trip a few weeks ago and had me rock hard yet blubbering.
-D
.... I do like Lisa Stansfield's cover esp her strutting down the street in a towel or nothing at all!
Aahh
Ooh, baby
Ooh, baby
Keep on
(My baby)
Keep on doing it
Right on (oh, oh, oh)
Right on doing it
(We get it together)
Baby keep on
(Oh We get it together baby)
Right on
Keep on doing it
(And I'll give you baby)
[All that I get]
Now my baby keep on
(I swear we get it together baby)
Keep on , keep on
Wherever, wherever girl I'll do it
Forever and ever, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'll see you through it
I've got to keep you pleased in every way I can
Gonna give you all of me
As much as you can stand
Make love to you right now
That's all I want to do
I know you need it, girl, and you know
I need it, too
'Cause I found what the world is searching for
Here, right here, my dear
I don't have to look no more
And, oh, my babe
I hoped and I prayed for someone
Just like you to make me feel the way you do
Never, never gonna give you up
I'm never, ever gonna stop
Not the way I feel about you
Girl, I just can't live without you
I'm never ever gonna quit,
'Cause quitin' just ain't my schtick
I'm gonna stay right here with you
Do all the things you want me to
Whatever you want, girl, you got it
And whatever you need
I don't want to see you without it
You've given me much more than words could ever say
And oh, my dear, I'll be right here until my dying day
I don't know just how to say all the things I feel
I just know that I love you so and it gives me such a thrill
'Cause I found what this world is searching for
Here, right here, my dear
I don't have to look no more
And all of my days I hoped and I prayed
For someone just like you
To make me feel the way you do
I never, never gonna give you up
I'm never, ever gonna stop
Stop the way I feel about you
Girl I just can't live without you
I'm never ever gonna quit
'Cause quitin' just ain't my schtick
I'm gonna stay right here with you
Do all the things you want me to
Oh I never gonna give you up
I'm never, ever gonna stop
All the things I feel about you girl
I just can't live without you
I'm never ever gonna quit
'Cause quitin' just ain't my schtick
I'm gonna stay right here with you
Do all the things you want me to

Anything I've ever heard played in a gay bar. | Hey DC:
A valid subcategory of your list might be any of Amy Grant's quasi-religious wailings. Possibly even more irritating than the usual fare offered by the Banshees, because we also get 'The Message' with our high pitched vulture caws.

Listen to any episode of American Idol. It's horrible. I always get shot down when I say this, but "my piano has 88 keys on it. That doesn't mean that I feel like I have to use every single one of them in every single phrase of every single tune I play." I've been told that this trend "makes the singer sound more soulful." To me, it sounds like they don't know what note to sing, so they will sing all of them. Quote:

| You're a lucky man indeed. You've probably never heard of Emo because you're not an overprivileged, teenage girl who leads people to believe that she thinks the world sucks just so she can get attention. | | | |

I have always been irritated by Carly Simon's You're so vain, I bet you think this song is about you. Simply because it obviously was about him, or have I been missing something?

It was absolutely inescapable then.
Actually they play it in Korea, too. Though they have redone it with Korean lyrics and girls singing the song instead of a bunch of metro guys.

I'm glad you like him, though. | Dave Matthews' voice isn't very whiny -- most of the time. It can be quite gritty and powerful. Guessing you haven't heard Rhyme and Reason, Watchtower cover, Halloween, etc. Besides, there are plenty of whiny singers. Turn on Vh1 any time they are playing videos and in an hour you will see several. Interesting the songs you listed are over 10 years and most people have probably forgotten about.
If you hate DMB that much, I'd be curious how you feel about Five For Fighting. To me they seem like everything you can not like about DMB heightened. I actually think he writes some pretty good songs. But listening to a whole album is too sugary and lame even for me.

I've had two ex girlfriends who absolutely loved him so I have heard quite a few tracks that don't get played on the radio. The ones that do, though, are obviously the ones that stick out in my mind the most in threads like this because they are the ones that are overplayed over and over and over and become incredibly obnoxious if you hated the song the first time you heard it. But I'm glad others find something of value in his work and derive enjoyment from it.
