Men’s locker rooms function as the “public square” for cock-watching and cock-showing. This has been the case in any locker room I have ever used, through school and adulthood. Depending on the individual and the overall clientele, the display and observation behavior may range form very discrete to not discrete at all, but I have always experienced the vast majority of men – gay or straight – to be at least fairly cock-conscious in locker room situations. Basically, I think it is normal for men to be curious about the size of other men’s dicks, to be pleased if their own compare favorably, and to be less than pleased if their dicks do not. As individuals, of course, we all fall somewhere along the continuum of relative penis size, and that self-awareness does not affect our behavior and self-esteem in the exact same way.
For those of us whose genitals place us in the well-hung class, I don’t think there is anything so bad with us enjoying our celebrity in the locker room, as long as we keep it in the right perspective (we remember it’s just a dick and set of balls), we are good natured about it (we don’t deliberately try to “shame” other guys), and we exercise good judgment in how and when to show it off (our behavior is not outrageous for the particular circumstances).
As the original post to this thread observes, there are indeed a lot of men out there who have very short “nubby” penises when they are flaccid. I may catch some flak for saying this, but regarding the “showers vs. growers” issue, my experience is that these guys are also correspondingly small when hard. Conversely, I have found that large soft penises do indeed almost always make large hard ones. It is common, though, for men to have relatively unremarkable flaccid penises but have quite respectable erections. |
