Best memory? Probably... high school. Valentine's Day 1996, I think. I was a junior, my first girlfriend Jenni was a senior. Every other guy in school would maybe get their girlfriend's 2-5 of those large mylar Valentine's Day balloons. Some of the girls in stead were walking around with 1 or 2 of these giant sized mylar balloons. For Jenni, I took out all the seats in my parent's van just so I could fit all the balloons in there and drive them to school, and I got her something like 30 or 40 or the giant-sized ones. Every guy in school hated me for making them look so bad, but every girl in scool envied Jenni, so it was worth it.

Every year we order take out and stay home. I don't like going out, especially when I know that every other person and their Mom are doing the same thing. I think that my boyfriend has taken it as his personal challenge to surprise me without making me go anywhere. This year went a little haywire... He had ordered a new mattress with the intention of it arriving today while he was at work. Something got mixed up and the delivery came on the yesterday. I didn't mind; Valentines Day is a about the romance not the date, but we aren't going to have a chance to try it out till tomorrow.

You real love that boyfriend he is one lucky guy. Hope you had a chance to put the old mattress to good use on Valentines Day and then you can compare it with the new mattress tomorrow

Maybe I'm just one of those crazy ladies that doesn't think Valentine's Day needs to cost money? To me, Valentine's Day is just a day to celebrate love.... and love is free! I mean, if a guy wants to spend money to take me out, I'm not going to say no, but sometimes just being at home with movies and Chinese food is just as nice. Hrm... I think my best Valentine's Day to date was two years ago... my boyfriend at the time took me to The Plaza (I know you don't know what that is, but it's a very posh part of town with lots of old Spanish architecture, and filled with expensive stores and restaurants). We took a horse-drawn carriage ride around the plaza, then stopped into Starbucks for some coffee because it was freezing outside, then went to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner. Afterwards, we walked across the street to the Cheesecake Factory and got some of their delectable cheesecake and sat out on their patio and ate it. The best part about it, though, was that it was just a nice night. Regardless of all the money spent, I had a good time with my date. :)

My favorite memory...

When I was in graduate school, I worked part time at Benneton. I was grumbling about having to work that evening and had no valentine prospects in sight. When I got home ,there on the front porch was a box filled with tropical orchids...with a card saying, "Orchids for a woman who is as exquisite and rare as they are...Your Secret Admirer". I never found out who sent them, but I will never forget the gesture either....

This year marks the 6th year anniversary of my wedding proposal and our 5th year wedding anniversary.

I suppose my most romantic Valentine Day memory was the proposal... I asked my wife to marry me, at church on a Wednesday evening during a Valentine Dinner hosted by our Youth Department in a crowd of 175 people. I was on the program to sing a song that evening for the church as well as doing the next presentation. However, since it was Valentine's Day, I wanted that evening to be a little more special. I had brought crystal candelbras from home, fine china, flute stemware globlets and silver flatware for us to dine with (she still had NO clue anything was going on). Additionally, I had 2 dozen roses sent to the church (multi-colored). After I spoken I did the presentation for the church, I had our sound engineer key up OUR song, "Because You Loved Me" and I sang it. While walking over to her, she began to cry. I fell to one knee on the last verse. At the end of the song I proceeded to tell her how much I loved her. I then presented her a cake she had saw from Edible Arts that she told me would love to sample that had her engagement ring on top of it.

Now tell me... How could she say NO? haha

Consequently, every year now, we still have dinners at the church and I still do the dinners with china, crystal glassware and silver flatware. :)

Tonight, though... is special. It marks the first time it has fallen on a Wednesday since we've been married. Starting at 3:00pm, I have planned for us today a his/her massage (she also has a day spa package for another time), dinner at a priemere resturant in our area where I will be performing OUR sing, LIVE again, flowers have been delivered, Edible Arts has delivered her special cake and gourmet fruit basket, and for that personalized touch... something someone told me to "MAKE"... I created a "coupon booklet" for her - redeemable all year (coupons for many things - homecooked meals, footrubs, date nights, cleaning the house, etc...)

I am a hopeless romantic... but I have a BIG GRIN on my face!!!

hm... I did that before. In jr. high school. They found out who did it and I was publicly ridiculed for it, including by the girl I left the flowers for. I wrote her a poem and left some of her favorite candy as well.

What? Sweetheart, she was unworthy...That was a fabulous Valentine's present. Even if the person who sent me the flowers had been the California raisin it was a wonderful wildly romantic gesture and deserving of thanks. Have a wonderful Valentine's day by the way....
