I'm so glad somebody else here actually even knows who he is! He was such a manly stud and you're right, many of his films were very interesting and quite unusual. As for speedos, I actually heard he wears short swimming trunks in both the Joan Crawford movie The Damned Don't Cry (1950) and The Beat Generation (1959), but alas I've seen neither.
