Digitally edited tribal documentaries???

I happened to be flipping thru the channels just a while ago when I came across a documentary of an Amazonian people. I watched it for about 3 minutes. They had actually digitally edited (blurred out) the genitals of EVERYONE in the documentary. (???)

I used to see these things in the past - and they didn't do that. So WTF happened?? Seems to me someone would have to be a pretty sick SOB to go filming indigenous peoples in their natural habitat then show it on t.v. with their bodies edited out. Are they saying there's something indecent about their bodies or the way they live?

Yes bc. I'm very disappointed with that situation. The hue and cry over Janet Jackon's nipple reeked with hypocrisy as a number of females had their nipples exposed on television prior to that, including the women in these documetaries.

Double standards, eh?

Puritannical America doesn't understand the difference between nudity and sexuality. We don't know how to separate the two. Leave it to us to worry about our youngsters being titillated (pun intended) by naked Amazonians in their environment shown on the telly.

re: janet jackson. Has anyone heard of cases where children were so traumatized by that nipple pop-out that they needed intensive cognitive therapy? Me neither.

I recall a documentary showing first contact with a previously unknown South American primitive tribe by a group of explorers. Learning about and filming the tribe was a risk as strangers might be viewed as enemies and killed by them. Fortunately the tribe proved to be friendly and curious. Their language was not known to their visitors. In spite of the language barrier a Christian in this expedition was determined to make Christians of them. He told them he used to be a naked tribal man like them before he became a Christian, which I found to be hilarious, and he managed to put tee shirts on some of them. When these persons left the explorers they discarded the foreign clothing on their way to their dwellings. I think he should have been told to respect and abide by the customs and culture of the tribe to further the purpose of learning about them as Mark and Olly did in their Living with the Kombai Tribe documentary:
