Men talking about Masturbation openly.

I'm new to this site. Pretty cool really. Anyway, how many of you guys here have friends that you can actually talk to about masturbation? I am very open sexualy and verbaly. Yet it is not a subject that comes up much between men. Other then in an awkward joking manner usually. (I work construction. Imagine that coming up at lunch break.) My girlfriend has said the same about women and masturbation. I was very surprised about that too. I grew up with zero talks about sex or masturbation from family members. Yet, I am very open myself. It's great that men can "chat" on the net about most any issue that they want to discuss. But in real life we find it difficult to speak about something that we all do and enjoy. And yes I realize due to Puritanism, social pressure etc. that it is considered not very exceptable. I have had two friends in my life I could talk about masturbation very openly and often. It was not really erotic but very cool to be able to say what I or they felt about this act or that. We could laugh about the ammount of times we have masturbated and or embarassing moments. Just as we all are doing when we read from this forum. Both my friends have moved. I miss the open discussions from masturbation to sex with our wives/girlfriends. It was details of our own intimate moments most men don't discuss.

Personally, I don't get into the meat of the discussion with friends. We speak about masturbating and how great it is, but it is always said with a humourous tone to the voice.

I wouldn't ask my buddy if he focuses on the shaft, or teases his tip and uses alot of lube. I know some people do. I talk about sex openly, but masturbating... it's tricky.

Talking about jerking off with another guy I think its the same as 2 guys talking about how good the sex was with the girl the other day

I come from an open family, in matters of sex, and nobody teached me that sex is wrong or dirty.

Anyway, in western cultures sex is at least private, so is masturbation. that's why it is not common to talk about it, even with your friends.

Personally, I have 3/4 friends with whom the subject sometimes comes up, with the others (some of them old date ones), never.

I have a set of close friends and I do talk about masterbating with them, no subject is really taboo with them, but with others, I think it would make some people very uncomfortable!!

Im really open and honest, but I think that some people arent as open and it wouldnt make for a fun conversation!!

I talk about whatever I want to talk about most of the time. You judge your audience. Total honesty can be refreshing and people can't help laughing sometimes, but sometimes you still get the impression that they think you are somewhat uncouth, whatever that means.

What you write 'imagine that coming up at lunch break' is indicative of a societal ill-at-easeness among heterosexual men generally. They don't think it somehow masculine to talk about themselves in any sort of a detached way sexually (or an attached one for that matter).

It's as though there's some unwritten code that men who've experimented in youth with other men "dare never mention its name" too. It only promotes misunderstanding and the idea that women are the ones who are "more likely to be bisexual" since 'they're more affectionate with one another'.

Please reassure me that hetero men aren't so stupid they think affection and sex are interchangeable??

All your experience tells me is that man has fucked up men generally in many social ways which (very unfortunately) affect us all profoundly.

I'd advise you on your lunch break next time to say "Hey guys? How many times do you whack it on average daily?" See what happens.

The good news is you may all end up in a circle jerk.

It's something that I only discuss with my closest (female) friend or relatively anonymously online.

I only talked to my buddies back when we were about 13 thru 16 about it. We did the circle jerk thing... but never anything other than seeing who could shoot the farthest or measuring up to see who was bigger. As far as talking about jacking off, I haven't had a guy to talk to about it until I found this site. As far as jacking off, I think we, "us guys", have to from time to time, depending on getting sex and the need to release the load that gets built up just wack at it.

Actually I did not mean to sound like this was a major conversation I wanted. But just that it is always joked about with no seriousness. And as I said also...Women too seem to have a bit of a disdain for that topic also. So it isn't just a str8 guys can't talk about it topic. Yet on the net...many people discuss it quite openly.

Being open and honest with my two sons years ago was very refreshing. I often told them that the only safe sex was self pleasuring, jacking off or masturbation. In a joking manner, I also advised them to be sure they washed their hands before doing so. After all no one wants bad germs on their love muscle. Neither one of them had any difficulty with the teen years as regards sexual activity. Read, No unwanted children.

I think I get your drift, thedude111. And you're right. There are very few of my male friends I feel comfortable talking with about masturbation. I wish it weren't so. After all, we all do it. And we all know we do it. So I mean, why not? Of course, maybe that's the answer. We all bathe, too, but nobody talks about that, either!

I do know this: The friends with whom I do talk with openly about masturbation are those whom I feel a special closeness to. Whether that's cause or effect I don't know, but it does seem to be the case.

I've only had a couple of friends that I've talked about this openly with. Totaly suprise in both cases as they brought it up, but refreshing nontheless... Most recent is a good friend who I used to work with, - he's going through the beginnings of a seperation/divorce. He and his wife haven't had "relations" in over a year. The subject of what porn sites we frequent, if we have any pornos we use etc. were discuss (I told him only about the str8 sites, as I don't think he'd be ready to know that I occassionally bat for the other team, maybe down the road I'll let him know).
In any case, it was nice to discuss it with some face to face, to see someone talk about what they liked and didn't like, and not have any expectations about doing something afterwards.

me and my best friend talk about jerking off/sex/our dicks all the time... were both super comfortable with each other(though i should say, not comfortable enough to jerk off together... or even to whip them out and compare)
