I don't remember the exact time, I don't think it's actually more than a few minutes though, and I think you can get the alginate that sets more quickly than what I had too...

I never tried a watch on it.. :)

I'm afraid all the pictures I had from that exhibit where lost a few years ago...or at least I haven't seen them in years, I think one of my exe's stole them. I am thinking about doing it again though... I've got about 35 pounds of sterling casting shot, I figure no time like the present, after all, I might not be able to keep it up forever!

I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be VERY IMPRESSIVE, and then you can give us all of the awesome details on how it was done. You're a blacksmith right? You are the youngest blacksmith I have ever seen, dovetails nicely with weapons assembly and modification. You're a pretty impressive dude Roosevelt!

I'll have to see about geting the alginate, I've got the rest of what I need... I'll check with a med-suply place tomorrow, and if not, I'll have to order it...

I have done this - I seem to remember posting about it in one of the other similar threads..

Anyway, I bought each material separately - alginate powder and silicone rubber.

As already mentioned here, the temperature of the water you mix with the alginate is quite important, too hot and it will set instantly. With cool water the one I used took about 4 minutes to set. A bit of vaseline stopped it sticking to me (a trim of hair helps too!) and I used an empty plastic soda bottle with the top cut off as a container.

The silicone just needs the hardener mixing in and then pouring into the alginate mould, and then left overnight to cure. Then the mould is pulled off and voila!..it was a PERFECT copy, very detailed and textured to the last pore

Actually I'd love to make another one or two but the cost of shipping the materials out here is a bit expensive.. we'll see

P.S. I think I have somewhere the website addy of the UK company I ordered from if anyone wants it - I'm sure the same materials can be found in the US too.

The water temperature is important. I have the "make your own dildo kit". The water needs to be at 70 degrees.

I still have the powder just in case I find a good candidate for it.
